Even if the world ends in 2012, IF I SAY, it would probably not be as a result of meteors or stuff like that. I mean, you would think NASA would've located it if a meteor was gonna hit us in 2012 or somethin'.

I remember reading somehwere that the end of a cycle (2012 in this case) in Mayan Culture was the cause of celebration, not all of these Doomsday theories and such.

But who knows. Like it was said on Page 1, "Wait and see".

The way I look at this whole 2012 doomsday is, who started the count down and when? Time is a man made concept. Time applies to no one but us people. Who is to say 2012 hasn't happened already? Or what exactally will happen.

My guess is that in 2012 Duke Nukem Forever finally gets released and everyones heads explodes in shock.

I believe it's a load of bull. Mayans simply stopped the calendar on that date because they knew it would be a long time before anyone would need to come up with a new calendar again, but by that time the ones who made it would be dead, so they didn't really care.

Everybody else just hopped on the bandwagon. 'Somebody says world's gonna end in 2012? I should 'prophecize' that as well!'

As far as I'm aware there's a 99.9% chance if we get wiped out by a meteor NASA won't have seen it coming. At least not early enough to avoid it crashing. Considering how big space is and how many floating rocks there are...

Either way I heard somewhere (probably this thread knowing me) that what is said to happen in 2012 has happened before . 3000 years ago or something. So even if something does happen it might not necessarily be the end of the world.

there are several reasons why this a myth:
1.the mayans themselves that they believe something important will happen on dec. 12 2012 not the apocalypse.
2.the mayans had several calendars & the one that ended on 2012 is shorter(260 days) than our 365 day calendar. this means that THEY'RE 2012 passed a LONG time ago thus the 2012 apocalypse is completely wrong ^_^

I have a calender on my desk right now, and it ends at December 2009... :O
