what did you think of metroid prime 2?

i just finished this game for the first time. is it just me or was this game twice as long as the first one? and it seemed to have a lot more random backtracking as well. the boss fights were a combination of fun and annoying, and the ending was lame. looking forward to MP3 though.

My only gripes with Prime 2 other than the terrible multiplayer were the linearity, Beam Ammo, the increased emphasis on action, Sky Temple Key hunting, and how the game felt like a FPS rather than a FPA.

It's still a good game worth a play through, but it's not something you want to come back to after finishing it -- unless you're bored or want to try the Trilogy version of MP 2 after beating the Gamecube version.

I thought the multiplayer was awesome for the 2nd metroid prime. But I suprisingly like it more with the gamecube controller than with wiimote and nunchuck. This multiplayer will never live up to the Halo multiplayer though.

That's the thing. The multiplayer in Echoes was really limited (not enough modes) and you could only be Samus or one of three recolors of Samus. So if you were hoping to play as a Space Pirate for a change, you're out of luck. Also the fact there was no online play for the Trilogy version of Echoes multiplayer was a missed opportunity.

To put it simply: Echoes multiplayer is an inferior version of the multiplayer in MP Hunters.

i never cared about any multiplayer whatsoever except smash bros and goldeneye so i cant comment on that, but i liked prime 2 for its feel. it just felt right. the dark world was also rather great after you got teh dark suit ebcause you almost NEVER were low on energy thanks to gaining health in the bubbles. it lookd boring though. i also hated the ammo system. but i loved, loved, LOVED the screw attack... same goes for 3

Ima starting the sky temple key quest now. I've gotten to that part in all metroid prime games where you enter a room, and you know there are going to be some enemies that have previously caused you trouble, but you think to yourself, "oh wait. I can kick anyone's ass now. i forgot".
my problems with the game: the screw attack is very hard to perform AT FIRST if you were used to the screw attack in MP3. And most importantly, the ammo system. why. why did we have to have an ammo system?

My question: why is it that (at least where i am in the game) there is the Echo Visor, Annihilator beam (which uses pulses of sound), and the game is called Echoes; yet there is no real reference to sound or echoes in the story?

I was thinking this along with Dark Samus being a twisted "echo" of Samus. But I didn't post this earlier because echoes deal with sound and not places and beings.

I liked it alot at the time it was released, much more than most people did, I was far more on the side of its many generous reviewers, and my liking towards Echoes has only increased in retrospect, especially after playing Metroid Prime 3. The 1st will always be my favorite (of the trilogy atleast), but looking back Metroid Prime 2 just seemed so much more complex, unforgiving, and unlinear in layout unlike the all-linear areas of Magmoor Caverns, Phazon Mines, and almost the entirety of MP3. That and I never considered it all that difficult. Boost Ball guardian took me a couple of tries, maybe even a couple more on hard mode, yet while people continue to complain about that I still can't seem to beat the final boss of MP3 on hypermode.

I've almost forgotten there was a multiplayer mode, though.

Out of the trilogy, Prime 2 is probably my favorite. Some of my favorite parts were:

The ammo system (and how you get dark ammo by killing with light beam and vice versa)

The Sky Temple key quest. Lot's of fun.

All the scans in this game were so much fun to read. I especially liked how there would be two seperate texts for things that would be added to your logbook. (The one that wasn't permanent that you saw as soon as you scanned and the one that saved)

And probably the most brutal enemies in the entire series.

Oh, and Quadraxis. He just pwns everything. (And, of course, he gives the most broken weapon ever)
Gravity Man is the coolest Robot Master on the planet. Trufax.

Well, to me anyway.

It's annoying, the dark world was a terrifying concept that I died so very many times in, and the boss battle to end the chore was harder than nailing your own face to a tree... although I did enjoy it as a sort of bastard child of the first game, not as good but still pretty good

this and LuigiGBA's "[Majora's Mask is] the redheaded stepdaughter of Ocarina of Time" are the two best descriptions of a video game given on Gonintendo.
I actually found that even before the Light Suit, Dark Aether was not that hard besides the

This post i agree with the most. I had one of the best gaming experiences finally picking up Echoes (first play-through and I didn't die once!). I ignored the multiplayer, 'cause the story-mode simply doesn't compare. Echoes is a damn good sequel and to hell with the people who docked points for it not having enough originality. The way I look at it, trying to be more original than Prime is a sure-fire plan for crashing and burning. Retro probably realized this and decided to simply expand on what Prime had already started. And it worked. Witnessing Metroid's transition from 2-D to 3-D in Prime I'm sure was an amazing experience, but when you're through with that hype, Echoes I find is much more fun to play than Prime. I was amazed by how undisturbed I was with the ammo system, expecting lots of frustration, and the Dark world is surprisingly fun to maneuver through. The bosses are freakin' awesome, and I'm surprised Corruption didn't have any that required Morph Ball trips. Sanctuary Fortress has got to be my favorite place in the trilogy too. I highly regret not playing this earlier.

MP2 is a mixed bag for me. I picked it up when it first came out, I remember how excited I was. The first Prime game is right next to Super Metroid on my all-time favorite games list, so my expectations were perhaps too high. I logged a few hours in, and quite frankly, got bored with it. I HATE Dark Aether. The environments were dull to look at. The back tracking in this game also feels a lot less organic than it did in Prime 1.

I didn't beat it until about 6 months back. I loved the difficulty level (it isn't as hard as everyone says it is, but it sure as hell is unforgiving if you make a mistake), some of the boss fights were great, but overall I'd say it's a step down from Prime 1.

That ending sucked, by the way.

You shouldn't expect too much from Metroid's endings. There's not much left to say when Samus has done her mission. She gets back in the ship and moves on. Also, I'm not sure how much you saw. The more items you collect, the longer your ending is.
Less than 75% of items collected: a short, usually one-cutscene ending.
75%items collected: another cutscene added.
100% items: a special ending at the end of the credits that leaves you hanging, in this case
Spoiler:
you see Dark Samus's particles reform in Aether's atmosphere right after Samus has left

I finished with 92%, but even after watching the full ending on YouTube, I'm unimpressed. Not that I care, really. MP2 was still a pretty good game, it's just the Prime 1 is just such a hard act to follow.
