Ps2 suggestions

Postby Pezdude » 26 Nov 2009 20:51

Ha, I know it's a weird title but after all these years I'm finally buying a Ps2

(I'm more of a nintendo fan...)

However, I'm now in need of some Game suggestions!

I like adventure games and such.

I also have to follow my moms rules by no beat-em ups (games like Kingdom hearts are ok) and Shooters.

Yes my mom is over protective, but I love her

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions?

And don't just post to tell me to go buy a Ps3, I rather stick with the $60 consel for now.

The PS2 is a brilliant console! Congrats. I'd suggest first and foremost the Ratchet & Clank series (I don't think these can be classified as shooters no? More of adventure platformers starring cuddly mascots!), Jak & Daxter (the first one... the other two simply lost the plot IMO) and the Sly Cooper trilogy. You'll love them all! If you want something regarded as a classic go with Shadow of the Colossus (you will still say "HOLY SH!T" at the visuals) and Okami (a GREAT alternative to Zelda).

Enjoy your new console! :)

Um...

*tries to think of a non-violent game*

Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2?
Street FIghter Anniversary Edition?
Megaman X Collection?

Oh God. This topic has made me realize just how blood-thirsty my PS2 library is.

You don't have any of the titles I mentioned either?? Your PS2 is starved of a good adventure then :S

Dragon Quest 8 is a good one to get. Don't forget about the Katamari games, either. It's heartbreaking that you have to miss out on the Metal Gear Solid games on PS2, though you can get away with playing that without having to kill anything but the bosses.

I do have a R&C game, and I passed Sly cooper 1&2 and Jak and Daxter 1, I just didn't want to be redundant by naming the same titles.

As previously stated, definitely the Ratchet and CLank series... incredible games. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Kingdom Hearts series, which had a nice mixture of adventure and RPG.

wgoa.
i too am actually getting a PS2 for christmas. i actually should have made this thread myself. thank you.
currently my ideas are
For Christmas: ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami
Later: Knights of the Old Republic, Kingdom Hearts, Fatal Frame.

And for me, i can't get M-rated games (dammit). so that takes out God of War, GTA (whichever one) and MGS. :(

KOTOR was only released for the Xbox and PC.

I don't think that there were any good western RPG's on the PS2, either. You have a buttload of JRPG's to pick from, though.

Of which I really want to get Persona 3 and 4. They look great.

Ooh, I know!

The Prince of Persia trilogy.
Unless, of course, you have it for Gamecube already.

Well you could try PaRappa the Rapper 2 if you like rhythm games. The first one is on the original Playstation and the PSP if you want to check that out.

I've found Megaman X8 to be a blast, but that's just me. Megman X Command Mission can be fun as well (I'd choose the gamecube version over the Ps2 one myself, but if you have MMXCM save data on your PS2 memory card while in a certain level of MMX8, you can fight Cut man (from MM1))

I would reccommend Final Fantasy XII, but it has a tendency to suck up all the free time in your life.
Gravity Man is the coolest Robot Master on the planet. Trufax.

Well, to me anyway.

WHAT!?!?!? No there are they are just relatively hard to find, I would suggest the Wild Arms series it has 5 games out so far spanning from the PS to the PS2. Good luck trying to find some of the earlier ones they're pretty rare now although there was a remake of Wild Arms 1 for the PS2 called Wild Arms Alter Code F. The only reason they are rare is cuz the first one was realesed liek a month after another famous title Final Fantasy 7, the game style is very similar so if you've played FF7 you'll like this series.

I would also like to second the vote for Okami very good action adventure game amazing art style and music.

"Western RPG" refers to a game created by a western developer, not the genre of the game. :P

As an aside, I find the Wild Arms series wildly overrated. Don't see the appeal - and I'm a big fan of westerns (the genre).

Katamari Damacy is a must have for any PS2 owner; double most for those that can't play M-rated games. One of my favorite games of the decade, and this comes from a Nintendo fan that never had a PS2 (still dreaming for software bc on PS3, so I could play this and SotC, a PS2 gem that I recommend too). The second one is pretty cool too and has multiplayer, but doesn't reach the first in level design quality, presentation craziness and soundtrack quality. If you could try and can't buy the most recent ones, play Monster Hunter. The first one has many flaws but, if you fall in love with it, you'll easily take some 50 hours of gameplay out of it at least, I guarantee. The problem is that it is not a game for everyone, and the first one is really crude compared with the newer iterations. If I had to suggest a Mega Man title, it'd be Mega Man X Collection, even with all the issues.
