Hey all! I'm going to put the rest of this post in spoiler tags for reasons that will become obvious later.

Nintendaan and I have been talking and we thought it would be cool to get RMC something for his birthday (August 19th)! The current idea is a Japanese 3DS so RMC can play the exclusives/access their eShop, but dependant on the interest involved we could always get him some art for the warehouse, some cool video game related figures, or any amount of cool swag if we can't reach the amount we'd need for the 3DS! We thought it would be a good pick-me-up for RMC after the advertising debacle, and show him that we're all behind him and his work (especially seeing as he refuses to accept donations for running the site.) Basically, what I would like from you guys is to sound off in this thread if you would be interested in contributing any amount of money (no matter how small, any amount is welcome!) to getting him a gift. I'll also put together a card in Flash and add everyone who contributed's names to that, and send it over on the day. We'll be doing this through Paypal, and whilst we haven't got all the nuts and bolts in place yet, I'd like anyone interested to please let us know either in this topic or by private message. Cort and MomBrain both know about this, but RMC doesn't (both because it would be a nice surprise, and he'd almost certainly refuse a gift as humble/stubborn as he is ) so please, whether you are or aren't interested in contributing, please keep this quiet. Cort has advised me RMC rarely has time to visit the boards so this thread should be ok. Anyway, let us know if you'd be interested in kicking in a couple bucks, and if you have any ideas for what we can buy him if we can't afford a Japanese 3DS, please add that in as well!

*EDIT* Also, please pass on a link to this thread by PM to any other members you think might be interested. It's tough publicising something AND keeping it secret at the same time! Remember, it's a secret to everybody RMC, not everybody!

I'll keep a running total going in this thread, I've kicked in 30GBP, so our current total is a little under 50 dollars. Nintendaan has just told me the current best price we have is 185 Euros, which is around 230 dollars! Definitely achievable I think, although if we make more as I said we can get games and other good stuff! Please, when sending money, include your GN username, and whether you'd like to be credited by that or your real name when I put together the card!

It must be said that I randomly approached poopaloop with the idea, just before RMC and MotherBrain went on holiday, and we have been talking about it ever since. I have a lot of respect for the work that Kevin puts into the site and like poopaloop said he doesn't like asking for money. However, I do feel that a gift from the community for his birthday is something within our reach. Of course, we have a goal in mind, but it is more about the gesture than anything else. If we get far less, I am still satisfied that we pulled something off and have made a clear sign that we aren't passing on the opportunity to thank him. This is all what matters and I think it is the perfect time to do so.

KingBroly, we were thinking of just a regular 3DS. Nintendaan looked at the prices of getting an LL imported and they are RIDICULOUS, there's no way we'll be able to raise that much sadly, and we figured on the off chance we do the extra money would be better spent on eshop credit/exclusive JP games! (I personally want to get him Senran Kagura, I think we all know by the number of news stories he posts about it he secretly wants it )

But yeah, that's an excellent idea! Do we know if he was into Tri? I think he'd really enjoy 3G but if it's his first MH I'd be a little concerned about the language barrier. Still, probably the best JP exclusive to get him I would say!

I bleeping love this idea. I know it's not even August yet but we definitely need to get this going as soon as possible. With import times and what-not you never know how long something will take to ship from over there. That said, I'm all in! I can contribute anywhere from $30-50 depending on the need.

So we've definitely set on the Japanese 3DS, right? Now we're just deciding on a few games? I admit I'm not up on the Japanese releases enough to offer any valuable suggestions but I can definitely contribute some money.

Just got notified today about this. This is a very nice gesture and I wholly respect the efforts being made thus far, and I hope that it pays off.

Unfortunately, I do not believe that I can provide contribution via money donations, but I would have definitely done so by now were I able to. If I understand right, I can't personally seek out recruitment on my own behalf either, so in the grand scheme of things, I can't really do much unless the situation beckons some other way.

That said, good luck. There's still plenty of time left and the pace seems to be excellent so far.

I think this is an awesome idea. I use GoNintendo every day and it's part of my daily routine of sorts. This site is the best imo compared to the others. RMC is gonna be so happy about all of this.
