Pretty colors and new banner!

I'm not sure I'd be a fan of the red either. I generally like darker colours mainly because it is easier on my eyes. Red would fit the theme, yes, but I just think it would get a little too distracting at times. Also, I need to retract my earlier statement - I'm now used to, and actually don't mind, having the User/Post switched. The Quick Reply feature is a godsend as well

I for one, welcome our new theme overlords! It works, and I can still sprinkle my delicious jimmies of wisdom upon this fair forum. In the end, that's all that really matters!

i think there's slightly more to the L/R debate than just the psychology of what content we're seeing and reading from left to right. from a UI/usability standpoint, most people use a mouse with their right hand, the scrollbars are on the right side of the window, so your cursor is likely to be on that side as well. the profile/user info are all clickable things, and potentially things people might click on more often than the text content in a post. notice the reply/quote buttons are also on the right side. it's a little jarring considering what we're all used to, but it does make sense.

That makes sense, although I would argue that most people use their mouse wheel to scroll down the page these days. I dunno, I don't think it makes much difference from a UI standpoint. I really think it's just personal preference more than anything, and to me it seems natural to read left to right and see the user, then their post. Or maybe it's just because most message boards are laid out that way, so it's a bit jarring to see the layout flipped.

I get why you would want to remove the top reply button, but sometimes when I want to reply quickly to a thread or poll that's really a yes/no or do you/don't you type of thread, it's not as necessary to read through the entire thread before posting.

don't worry golbie... like i said before, part of the reason for even exploring this path is that it is easy to maintain between software updates. that means as few custom tweaks and changes from the stock theme as possible. a reply button isn't even on my radar. i'll have to look at the CSS, but unless it too is an extremely simple swap of style rules, we'll be using whatever the prosilver default is (avatar right, post left).

Having the user information on the right does seem odd to me at first. Only because all other forums have it on the left. I've gotten used to it there. The other way does put more emphasis on the actual post as opposed to the user... Also, let's not make everything red, I would love a much darker theme if possible. Thanks.

btw, this follows up the earlier discussion where people could vote on "how ugly" people would be ok with the forums becoming if we switched to a more generic theme with the benefit of being able to keep the software updated.

so more generic theme = more updates/more secure site.

sometimes it's just bug fixes. sometimes it's new features. sometimes it's plugging security holes.

or any combination of the above; any of which are typically good reasons to be up to date.

I like this new theme, it feels cleaner.

Although the ad being INSIDE the banner kind of annoys me, but that may be contractual, so you probably cant change that.

I do like that the post content is on the left side, it may take some getting used to, but it is easier to read.
