I have friends/family who are gay. Do I hate them? No, I love them. Does that mean I agree with how they live? No. I don't treat them any different though.

Hey guys, a federal judge overturned Prop. 8! It's okay to be gay, again!

Doesn't it still need to be outright decided on [for all and the monkeys] though [or at least that's what the BBC article on it alluded to me]?

This. There's a handful of questions you can ask someone to know their intelligence, and one of them is "What do you think of gay marriage / homosexuals?"

I honestly forgot if I had already given my opinion, but there's something I wanted to add, so I'll go ahead and do it.

There shouldn't even be a "debate" in regards to gay marriage, because there are absolutely no valid arguments against it. There's no valid reason why it shouldn't be legal, and anyone opposing it has been brainwashed (more or less) by religious beliefs (which are fine as long as you still have a personal judgement) or by prejudice.

Simple as that.

EpicGyllynn wrote:I am strongly opposed to same-sex marriage, because, as threshhold pointed out, the modern marriage was established by the the early Church as a "Holy Union between a Man & Woman", if they want to become legal partners thats fine, but a nearly 2000 year old religion shouldn't be asked to change their ideals for anything, let alone this! I am a Christian, and I do not believe homosexuals go to Heaven, I do believe that being gay is a choice(in fact I know it is), but I do NOT believe they should be oppressed. A homosexual should have the same rights as everyone else, but they should be legally partnered, not married!

People like you make me sick.

You honestly believe that being gay is a choice? As other users have pointed out, homosexuality is BIOLOGICAL, and not a choice. Homosexuality = being sexually attracted to someone of the same gender.

Sleeping with someone of the same gender does not necessarily mean that person is homo. The physical attraction is what counts at the end of the day.

You're also a hypocrite. You say homos should have the same rights as everyone else, but they still can't earn the title of "married". That's not equality. You're oppressing them by not granting them the title of marriage.

I believe marriage is a bond between two objects or people, etc...it doesn't matter if they're the same gender.

Congrats to Californians and the overturning of Prop 8. This is hopefully a big milestone for homosexual tolerance...I just wish religious/anti-gay/anti-progressive people would stop halting human progress. It's happened so many times in human history--there are too many moments where we've had overzealous bigots deny rights of individuals and halt scientific progress as well.

It depresses me that this is still a debate. Equality means that everyone gets the same rights. Not just the rights that you agree with. What's next, Athiests, Jews, and Muslims can't marry because it wouldn't be a traditional Christian marriage?

So yes, I am for gay marriage. There's no reason that it shouldn't exist.

That has been a fear of mine as well. I personally am non-religious, but rather spiritual/"pagan". The very idea that one religion is allowed to define what marriage is, is a slippery slope that could easily follow into "only Christians can legally get married", or even "Only CERTAIN kinds of Christians" for that matter.

Besides that, marriage is NOT a Christian concept. Marriage between one man and one woman has been part of EVERY culture since the beginning of man.

To me, it just comes down to this: denying homosexual American citizens the right to marry like everyone else, is merely denying American citizens rights that everyone else is allowed to have. So-called "Inaliable, natural human rights". What about being gay suddenly revokes inalienable, natural human rights?

Just saying.

I've heard the argument that marriage is a "privilege" reserved for men and women, and not necessarily a civil right. While that sort of makes sense, the problem here is that when people get married, they get special government awards such as shared healthcare.

Around last year, my mom's job installed healthcare benefits for her and my whole family. Before that, my Dad had to pay for our family because his job gave crap benefits. So, my dad ditched that plan because my mom's job was going to provide for us anyway. However, if my parents were, say, two gay women, they wouldn't receive those benefits mutually. My mom would get her job-provided healthcare and my dad would still have to pay for this.

I can sort of understand why marriage is a "privelege" and sacfed and blah blah blah, but just because you're straight doesn't mean you deserve special treatment. You have to earn your "priveleges", and marriage, assuming it is a privilege, isn't earned in the slightest.

It would be like the governement allowing me to skip Med School and go straight into a Doctor career just because I'm Hispanic.

Technically, you can make it a choice. But will it be hard? Probably

I used to have the opinion that some of you are having. "Gays should die!" "Gays shouldn't be allowed!" "Gays shouldn't go to heaven!" I think it was the fact I was brain washed when I was little that gays are the worst things on earth.

They're people, just like us. Why should we treat them less? Isn't this a free country? Why is a majority of the country treating them badly and giving them less rights?

I would agree with the whole "Marriage is a holy union between man and woman" blah blah blah if the concept of marriage were a Christian creation, but it's not. At all. Churches aren't going to be forced to conduct the marriages, children aren't going to be "taught homosexuality," as lovely Mrs. Bachmann puts it. I find it absolutely hilarious that the social conservative crowd supports all these discriminative policies, yet are so vocal against Islamic Sharia law, it's so hypocritical. It's a pity homosexuals have to go through all this crap.
