Moments in Gaming that Shocked You or Made You Cry

Postby Steel Diver » 06 Mar 2012 20:24

Games can bring out many emotions in a person. Are there any moments in gaming that made you cry? Was it out of saddness or joy? Was it in a game or was it just about somthing related to a game like an announcement at E3? For me I cried througout the ending of Skyward Sword, I won't say anything else or I might spoil it.Have any moments in gaming like an announcement or a game itself ever shocked you? I was shocked when the 3DS was unveiled in such an awesome way. What about you?

Honestly, I can't say that I have. I guess I'm just not very emotional. The end of Skyward Sword didn't make me sad at all. I've heard a lot of people have say they cried when Aeris died on Final Fantasy 7, but I wasn't sad about that either, it was my least favorite character, and I wanted Cloud to get with Tifa anyway. As far as gaming announcements, I may feel excited, but far from crying or anything, I guess the most shocked I have been would be from the Wii controller, or maybe the name Wii itself. I did cry at the end of E.T, Where The Red Fern Grows, and Old Yeller when I was like 5. Pretty much the only time I feel emotional during movies is when a dog or cat or something dies.

I'm not very emotional at all, so there hasn't been many movies/ shows/ etc. that have made me cry let alone video games/ gaming announcements. I remember crying from Lion King the first time I watched it and from Clannad the first time I watched it, but never from video games. I few things did shock me though. I'll list the ones I can remember...

I was fairly shocked the first time I played OoT when Ganondorf comes back after you think you beat him.

I was also shocked at the way you kill Ganondorf in WW by stabbing him in the head. (Never saw that one coming)

There were a few moments that shocked me in RE4, but the villager with the chainsaw who could decapitate you was especially shocking.

I was shocked the first time I found out Samus was a woman.

I was shocked every time the princess ended up being "in another castle".

Some moments in GTA were shocking when I first played the game. Like picking up prostitutes...

I was shocked when I found out the cake was a lie.

I was shocked when Nintendo decided to go with "Wii" for the name of their next console.

I was shocked again when Nintendo went with "Wii U".

I was also shocked the first time I saw the Wii U controller, even with all of those rumors.

At the end of Wind Waker, when you see the pirate ship.. I was living far away from my family, I was missing them badly.

In Majora's Mask, when you go into the basement of the Music Box house in Ikana Valley. For whatever reason, that moment hit me hard.

when mordin cures the genophage, and is singing 'modern scientist solarian' and he starts talking about the seashells! I lost it, he was my friend.

also when
Spoiler:
legion gives up his very soul to give his people true intelligence, such a noble sacrifice. I really wanted to kill the reapers after this.

Nier had a very sad moment:

Spoiler:
there's a part late in the game were you're meeting with an old friend that has grown up and getting married to a girl that help you early on. During the wedding a group of wolves kill her

This sad melody plays during that scene:

I think most people will say that this was very predictable, but for me I couldn't believe it when I found out that tetra was zelda in wind waker. Wind waker was the first zelda game that i ever beat, I had played ocarina of time quite a bit before that but never got to the point where you find out sheiks true identity, only after playing super smash bros melee and having the sheik thing spoiled did I finally finish ocarina of time. Also I was 10 years old at the time so I might've been a bit easier to shock.

Also I couldn't believe it when Midna destroys the mirror in twilight princess. That to me is the best ending to any game that I have ever played.

The part where Xion dies in Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days was probably one of the saddest moments in any game that I've ever played. I absolutely despised 358/2 days and I still do, it so painfully boring and repetitive, yet somehow I got quite attached towards most of the characters and her death scene was really sad until Roxas had to ruin it with the ice cream comment...

The big reveal towards the end of the first Bioshock basically made that game for me. Don't get me wrong, I was really enjoying Bioshock all the way up to that point, but as someone who was diligently following the story up closely IT CHANGED EVERYTHING! So if you haven't beaten Bioshock yet: would you kindly fix that?

For me it was also 358/2 that got to me. The ice cream comment did kind of ruin it for a lot of people but you have to understand where Roxas was coming from to get it. I believe he associated ice cream with friendship since that was all he ever enjoyed during his time in the organization. Whenever Roxas, Xion, Axel were done with a mission they would always sit on top of the clock and look out into the sunset while enjoying there time together by cracking jokes and eating ice cream.

I believe what also got to me was Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep's secret ending where everyone cries out Sora's name. Meaning that hes the only one who can save them due to the bond they all share.

Yes. Definitely this.

The only other game I think I've ever cried during is Final Fantasy VI. With moments such as Edgar and Sabin's coin toss, Celes'
Spoiler:
suicide attempt if Cid dies
and Shadow's entire backstory, I cried far more times than I should during a video game.

---Hearing about the Super Nintendo in school and in magazines. With 'Super' in the title, I thought it was fake. When I finally saw the Super Mario World commercial, I freaked out! :o

---Getting my Dreamcast online for the very first time. I didn't own a computer, so I was using the dreamcast to browse the web until I got the Wii, then until I got my own laptop...last year. :D

---The stupid Wii name. Revolution was a cool one, but after owning the Wii this gen, I don't think it deserves a cool name like that one. :?

---When I learned of another Densha de Go game being made for the Wii. I honestly thought that Taito was going to resurrect the series, but it turned out to be just an old PS2 port. It wasn't even the latest in the series. :(

---The Wii's last gen graphics of the Wii. Seriously, everyone I knew that followed video games were also confused about this. :? I tried to remain optimistic, but just couldn't do it for very long, because...

---Almost all major 3rd-party games skips the Wii again and again. Back in around 2008 and 2009, I wanted to give up on Wii.

---Waiting year after year, and still no Star Fox, Wave Race, 1080, F-Zero or new Mario Tennis game on the Wii?! They were my favorites on Gamecube!

---A Sakura Wars game FINALLY being released outside of Japan. Hooray!! ...and it's good! :D

---Xenoblade was announced for North America :)

---Samurai Warriors III and Sengoku Basara on Nintendo Wii! Nintendo NEVER got those games last gen, so I was really surprised! I still play them. :D

---Finding the secret rupee room in Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It was an accident, and I didn't know how I did it. I remember leaving the room and being near that tree that those two lumberjacks were humping/sawing near the forest. :!:

---I read about Plok for Super NES back in the 90s in an old video game magazine, but not finding the game in any stores until a year later (at a video rental shop). It was as if the game never existed, then...**P-O-O-F** Magic!

---Same as above, different ending. My brother and I saw Street Fighter Alpha 2 for Super NES in a Nintendo Power magazine. We were deep into the N64 generation, and pretty bummed about missing out on all of the Playstation games (sorta like this generation), so when we saw that game, we were, like, "HOLY CRAP!". Unfortunately, no store had the game except one FuncoLand, who only had the store copy. The Manager allowed us to buy it, and we went home super happy! :gamer: Honest to God, we didn't know that Street Fighter Alpha 2 existed on SNES until we re-read our old Nintendo Power magazines that day. It had to have been around 1998.

The ending of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future got my cheeks wet. Man, that game was awesome.

I thought the little girl/Luma story in the first Galaxy was pretty touching, too, even if Miyamoto hates story in a Mario game. I think I shed a tear or two.

As for shocking...

At the end of Ghost Trick, when you find out Sissel is a CAT...
