The Modern Warfare 2 Thread

Postby TYFIGHTER » 01 Sep 2009 21:57

Why is there no thread on this game? Anyways, this is the place to discuss (probably) the most hyped game of 2009. I personally am so excited, that I actually am forking out 60 extra dollars to get the Prestige Edition. NIGHT VISION!

Oh, and has anyone seen this new multiplayer trailer?

I dunno. I gotta say, I'm really just sick of how FPSes are run nowadays. CoD4 was a refreshing game in the sense that the gameplay was fantastic and it was something that hadn't happened before, but now after WaW I've gotten bored of CoD games as well. Do something new with FPSes, please...

Blasphemy. Jk, to each his own. But I for one am so excited to see what refinements IW will be bringing with this CoD. Did anyone else notice at the end of the trailer the guy who throws the knife has a silencer... AND A RED DOT??

My wish has come true.

My goodness.

Every time I begin to lose interest in MW2, a new video comes out that blows me away.

Did anyone else spit out their scotch with laughter when they saw that the player killed an opponent name "Boom! Headshot" with a pistol-headshot?

You know what bothers me? The blood on the screen when you get shot.
I hope they remove that.

It looks good and all, but I can see it becoming a pain.
It's already hard to spot enemies at a glance, and a split second often means the difference between a killstreak or a respawn.
It looks like the blood will make spotting more annoying.

I just want to see some footage for COD:MW on the Wii.

I do own a PS3, but my Wii still gets played more...I prefer my FPS games with Wii controls.

haha.. i guess it could be considered 'trolling' by some. but it was a serious observation. i've been watching the trailers and other info about the game and just don't see what the big deal is. it looks like every other war fps ever made, and that is the last thing that is going to excite me about a new game. just sayin'.

I really don't like "war" settings.

I don't enjoy the film's, and I sure don't enjoy the games. I'm looking more forward to Left 4 Dead 2 (it can't come soon enough).

Wow, a frosty reception from a lot of people.

I for one am looking forward to it. To be honest, I haven't even delved into the Call of Duty franchise. My old PC was just too weak for me to consider it. But now I'm playing with power, I'm excited to get into it.

This really doesn't look like the run-of-the-mill FPS. There's something to be said for games with production values and storytelling of this caliber. Being at the hands of master game-makers is what it's all about for me. Bring it on.

this is the kind of thing that happens when INFINITY WARD works on the Call of Duty franchise. All the ones they have not worked on have been met with mediocre success. I know world at war did well, but it was just at WWII game slapped on the COD4 engine. INFINITY WARD worked on COD1, COD2, and since they didn't make 3, the actually file on the COD4 disk was named COD3, because to them really it was the third call of duty. I still have to say COD3 was a horrible game. not fun at all.

But since they are back on this one we can all expect the best a game can offer.

i will concede that the game looks visually stunning. very well-made. guess the type of game (typical war fps zzz) isn't for me.

now if they could make a fps tetris.... actually, nvm.

To be honest, the CoD series is a typical war FPS series.

But it's the most polished, thoughtful, and well-designed war FPS series I've played.
I'm usually bored by these types of games, but CoD does it so well I can't help but like it.

Oh my.
The new infamy trailer!

One thing worries me - I have a feeling this whole "attack on the US" might take a turn for the absurd. I just hope its tastefully done.

This game looks great, and from what I've read play's just as good as well.

But..

War themes are just sssssoooo boring. I don't like watching it on film, and I sure wouldn't like spending hours playing it.

The bushes knock is down a couple of pegs. So does one of the first levels because that level is insanely hard.

Spec Ops? Same problem as Firefight, but with half the players.
Mega Man 9 isn't hard, you're just not paying attention

First day sales are in, fastest selling game of all time according to preliminary data http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=5826

Estimates say the 360 version will break 5 million by the end of the week. Did anybody expect sales this high? I predicted around 4 million across PC, PS3, and 360 for the entire first week, I was clearly mistaken.

According to official GfK-ChartTrack numbers obtained by MCV, the title sold 1,230,588 copies in 24 hours – smashing the previous record set by Rockstar's 2007 release.

The number represents close to one in 24 UK homes.

The news puts MW2 easily on course to hit the 1.7 million sales forecast by MCV last month – and means it's already matched HMV's slightly more conservative estimate.

Source

Impressive. And this is just in the UK.

Edit:

UPDATE: ELSPA has put out a press release repeating the numbers, and confirming that MW2 grossed around £47 million on day one. The news keeps getting better and better for Activision...
