TALLADEGA COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -
Scam artists worked to ruin Christmas this year for one Talladega boy.

The boy's mom bought her son a Nintendo gaming system but when the boy opened the box there was no Nintendo. Instead the box was full of rocks wrapped in tissue paper.

The mom bought the Nintendo from a Wal-Mart in Talladega. She explained to the store what happened, and the store gave her a new Nintendo.

It really is disgusting that there are people who do this type of thing. Of course it is rather unusual that the store did not check the merchandise when it was returned. At the Walmart I worked at, we always had to check things like consoles.

I'm honestly a bit surprised that they even gave them a replacement 3DS, but nice of them to do so. It's not as though this sort of thing hasn't happened before, but it's still kinda hard to swallow sometimes.

That reminds me the time someone got a phone book instead of a PS3.... And I think it was from Walmart too. WTH is wrong with people. Glad he did get his 3DS. If I were to give my child a box full of rocks unknowingly, I would probably laugh about it in a WTF way, but at the same time, pissed.

I'll bet it was purchased using craigslist to set up the sale. I also bet that the seller used a disposable phone number (i.e., bought a pay-per-minute phone at the store just for the sale).

It's disgusting to think so many people likely do this all the time.

I think the problem is that sometimes the items are sealed when returned. Opening them makes them lose the "New" status (though I'm sure they could sell it new).

I remember at Target that we returned a brand new iPod Nano. The employee was about to open it (policy) but my Dad told them that it was sealed and closed.
