If there would be a futuristic Zelda world, then wouldn't it be very different from how we see 'future' worlds now? Since there is a lot of magic in Hyrule, I don't expect that the future Hyrule will look anything like our world. I don't expect a world filled with crazy technology, and honestly, I wouldn't like it. If you take away that fantasy setting, then Zelda becomes a totally different game, so i don't expect they'll use Zelda for a setting like that.
Seeing as the idea came from ALttP, I think the idea was as follows:
The "Dark World' was orginally the future, and everything there was going to be futuristic. Link would be from the "medieval" world and thrown into the future one, which would seem very strange and unnatural to him. In this way, both the main character that you play as AND the player playing the game would have the same feeling of bemusement and feel out of place. Because you can relate to the character you are playing as in this way it helps the setting not seem out of place.
Also just because something is "futuristic" does not mean its not fantasy. There are plenty of ways to make technology fit in to a fantasy world. Think about metroid with the Chozo and their contraptions that are both futuristic yet ancient and buried in ruins.
