Nintendo now owns part of Fatal Frame/Project Zero

Reports are coming in that Nintendo now owns all the rights to the Spirit Camera IP and co-owns the Fatal Frame IP with Tecmo Koei.

Nintendo now owns the publishing rights, which means that any new addition to the franchise will be on Nintendo's consoles and handhelds.

So what do you all think? Is this a good thing?

kinda, so long as they publish em in the west, Nintendo needs some more mature exclusive IP, with silicon knight out of the picture, they lost eternal darkness, so this is a good move I think

Spirit Camera was one of the worst 3DS games I've ever purchased. Let's hope they are planning to develop Fatal Frame and not Spirit Camera. I have yet to play an "Augmented Reality" game on the 3DS that doesn't suck or that is fun for more than 5 minutes.

I don't know Fatal Frames' sales numbers, nor Spirit Camera like I said.

And money is what drives companies. I just can't trust that all games I have interest in will be localized anymore so I'm automatically skeptical of everything.

a very low profile series but a good one , i guess they'll just publish what the team comes up with next , just like they did with sin and punishment or monolith . They are not really keen in the retooling other companies ip by their own teams game

I like the news, the series is in good hands. Hoping to see more entries to the series, and that they come to the US.

Every time I hear of some company gaining the rights to a series I love I die a little inside; Nintendo only seems to care about its own internally developed franchises and demotes everything else. It's sad.

You guys are totally aware Fatal Frame doesn't have to be distributed as disc only, right? As with all Nintendo games, Wii U and 3DS have digital-friendly infrastructure that can port Fatal Frame games fairly quickly.

Then again everyone on Earth is still in panic mode, so I'll just have to wait till 2012 is over... :angel:

Awesome! I can't wait to see what comes of this..don't really know why a lot of people are complaining that the series is never coming to the states because I don't remember seeing that in the report..seems to be more and more Nintendo haters on here lately-isn't this still "GoNintendo"?

The problem is, Nintendo was the publisher for FF4 in Japan. And its pretty much common knowledge at this point that they're the reason the game was never released in the US.

It's also common knowledge that Nintendo demanded Tecmo to fix Fatal Frame 4's bugs before localization, but Tecmo wouldn't do so.
