The person said they saw it in a tumblr, but even though it sounds like a really good idea, I highly doubt it will happen.
Maybe there's any confirmation to this? what are your thoughts on the whole subject, even if it is fake?

Did you ask for its source?
Anyway, after recent collaborations in party games like Fortune Street and the Basketball games, I can see this happening.
Sincerely, I don't really mind it, I wasn't too fond of it to either happen or not.

Obviously you said you didn't trust tumblr, but to make a new thread about it says otherwise (At least the way I see it).

However, you'll find that that link redirects to a story about Sony losing buckets of money, so i'ma call shenanigans on this.

It was initially going to be Super Mario RPG 2, but that changed. Nintendo realized that Paper Mario was too different from Super Mario RPG to consider it a sequel to it.
With that said, I think this is entirely bogus. Doesn't hurt to dream though.

Nope, it was actually the fact that Super Mario RPG is owned by both, Nintendo and Square (Enix), and Nintendo wasn't allowed to call it Super Mario RPG 2 without Square (Enix) being involved, or something alomg those lines.

Broken_Cartridge wrote:So where did you read that Nintendo isn't allowed to call Paper Mario Super Mario RPG 2 without Square Enix being a part of it? That literally makes no sense. By that logic, Nintendo shouldn't be allowed to use the Donkey Kong Country name.
Edit: Now mind you, I don't have anything supporting what I said either, but at least I have something coherent backing it up. The two games only share similarities in genre. All gameplay elements implemented were entirely different. Would make no sense keep the name of it as Super Mario RPG 2, and I've found nothing that supports your claims that suggest them not being allowed to use the name.

The original is owned by both companies, I don't how much each company owns of the game (outside of your typical Geno, Mallow and Culex), since it's Final Fantasy with a coat of Mario paint. Nintendo and Square Enix must work together if we want a "true" Super Mario RPG 2, if Nintendo released Paper Mario as Super Mario RPG 2, you could have expected Square to step in and demand a name change/game recall/whatever they had to do to prevent the game to released with that name without their approve.
I wish I could provide you with the link where I read that, but I can't find it, it's been a while since I read it.
About DKC, the series was owned by both Nintendo and Rareware, but with the whole Rareware purchase by Microsoft, Nintendo got 100% of the rights of DKC.

baba944 wrote:Now I have two questions. If Paper Mario (NINTENDO 64) was gonna be called Super Mario RPG 2, what was it's original plot? Also, will the other games in the Paper Mario Series be called, hypothetically, Super Mario RPG 3: The Thousand-year door, Super Mario RPG 4, and Super Mario RPG 5: Sticker Star?
