"If we didn't have faith that Nintendo is going to fix their digital games store, we wouldn't be releasing Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien on the Wii U. We were able to approach our totally awesome inside man and trick him into getting us on the list for devkits relatively early," says Neuse. "Of course, we had to re-apply for Wii U development status, since the Wii developer status doesn't automatically carry over; so there was some paperwork involved. But basically, we told them very early on that we thought we could hit the launch window with Runner2 for whatever their downloadable service is going to be, and they seemed to like that idea. We'll see if we can actually pull it off." - Alex Neuse, Gaijin Games

Gaijin Games isn't the only company that feels Nintendo is stepping up their digital game.

"The 3DS eShop is already so much better in comparison. I'm sure the shop on the Wii U will be a big improvement as well. Nintendo's overall strategy is way more focused on connectivity. This should help overcome the biggest problem of the Wii shop, which is that many Wii consoles are not even connected to the internet." - Felix Bohatsch of Broken Rules

This is good to hear. Those who care about playing the same 2-5 minutes of video game with people they can't see will be happy. The only improvement I need to Nintendo's online is a purchase record of any kind to allow you re-download your games if your system breaks, like what happened with my first Wii. That's a lot of money completely down the drain, and it's the only area I felt Nintendo actually had a problem when it comes to online functionality. I know I'll get flak for that, but oh well.

Indie devs believe in Wii U's eShop experience

Postby Hisiru » 09 Jul 2012 13:00

I am actually very excited for Chasing Aurora and Trine 2. I want more info about the other games.

I really want to know more about the achievement/trophy/medal system... That's all I want.

I had a dream. WiiU had a medal system (similar to trophies) it's something like this:
Green Medal = Platinum
Blue Medal = Gold
Red Medal = Silver
Gold Medal = Bronze

I was going to get my first green medal, but then I woke up and I lost it... I hope I will be able to do it in reality xD

I figured they'd go with something more innocuous like... I dunno... stamps or something. And you could be like "YO CHECK OUT MY MO-F*****G STAMP COLLECTION!"

If you could use your stamps to decorate your plaza then it would be glorious.

Stamp collection...that sounds way more awesome than it should.

I was relaxed just waiting to see what Nintendo will bring but you sir, just ruined my tranquility . Now I am very excited for it and I hope they can bring stamps and use them as we said here. Oh man... I hope I won't be severely disappointed.

Indie devs believe in Wii U's eShop experience

Postby WesFX » 09 Jul 2012 15:33

Well, that just doesn't matter, indie devs.

It only matters if the consumers believe in eShop.

Lots of devs believed in WiiWare, and it was full of great games, but the consumers didn't believe it, so it floundered (comparatively).
