3DSPaint - Create 3D Artwork on Your Nintendo 3DS Internet Browser

GN Version 4.0
Today marks the general release of 3DSPaint, a Web app for the Nintendo 3DS Internet Browser that allows creation of 3D artwork to share with others online. Artwork can be browsed in a gallery and exported in 2D as a PNG, JPEG, or GIF, or 3D as an MPO, with customizable depth. This can all be found as part of the free community at 3DSPaint.com, a sister website of DSiPaint.com and WiiOperaSDK.com.

The 3DSPaint app works by allowing the artist to paint to any of 5 layers that determine the "distance" from the viewer, with two foregrounds (popped out of screen), a mid-layer (flat to screen), and two backgrounds (pushed into screen). The artwork is saved in vector format for view-time manipulation of size, depth, and output format. The encoding is performed by the custom MPO-encoder written just for 3DSPaint.

Over the next few weeks, the features will continue to expand on this area of 3DSPaint.com to add voting for the Top 10 artwork, editing previously-saved artwork, manipulating layers, and more. Additionally, there will be added support for viewing on other 3D-capable devices, like the HTC EVO 3D smartphone. Currently, iOS and Android devices can be used to paint and save, alongside the Nintendo 3DS.
