GN Version 4.0
The following information comes from co-director Tai Yasue...

- Tetsuya Nomura made the request for a system which forces the playable character to change
- Yasue's reaction to the request was a feeling of fear.
- he thought this would change the tempo of the series too much
- while the game keeps count of how many times you change, it doesn't impact gameplay
- the game's "free flow action" system was also thought up by Nomura
- this system was made by starting with Birth by Sleep data
- the team planned for two or three days, developed for one or two weeks, and ended up with the basic idea we see in Dream Drop Distance
- The Dream Eater mini-game Flick Rush was originally planned to make use of the systems' camera
- you could take a picture of your friend and use that in the mini gam
- this idea was shot down by Nomura
