Ubisoft details Assassin's Creed III's microtransactions, says they're a shortcut
"People who have little time can use Erudito Credits as a shortcut to unlock game items from level 1 to 50. This is not mandatory, all items sold in Erudito Credits are also available in Abstergo Credits and can be unlocked through normal progression like previous years." - Ubisoft statement
In other words, you can get all of these items for free...you just have to do a lot of multiplayer gaming. I'm sure that won't be a problem for most.
