Disney looking to make Disney Infinity a yearly release

GN Version 4.0
"With Infinity we're looking at releasing versions that come out each year and those will feature all of the content [for] the year. One of the reasons why we did the figures was that future versions of Infinity will still respect all of those characters. So when we release a future version of Infinity, although we won't have a Play Set that necessarily goes with the characters, the characters will still be able to play inside of the Toy Box, and we'll add new features to future versions of Infinity as well.

"We'll not only be forwards-compatible but backwards-compatible as well because we'll push a title update that features all the characters from Infinity 2 that can be applied to your Infinity 1 game. So then players from Infinity 2 can still interact with players from Infinity 1 inside of their Toy Box with that title update. So even if you own Infinity 1, you could buy an Infinity 2 character, [and] we would push all the animation data down the pipe into the Toy Box on Infinity 1." - executive producer John Vignocchi

In other words, Disney wants to make sure you invest lots of time and cash into their Infinity worlds. I guess that's only going to happen if the initial outing catches on!
