The Guardian has put together a new feature entitled ‘Violence and guns in best-selling video games’. The feature breaks down the violent content appearing in some of the industry's most popular games. While you expect Call of Duty and Gears of War to be on there, the feature also lists popular Nintendo titles.

Pointed out in the list are Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Mario Kart Wii (Comic Mischief), Just Dance 3 (Lyrics), Mario Party 9 (Cartoon Violence) and Wii Sports (Violence). As you know, these are the ESRB descriptors on these packages.

The overall aim of the list is to showcase how many of the top 50 games in 2012 featured violent content. I'm all for any type of content game makers put out, but it's nice to see Nintendo keeping on the more family friendly side of things. Let's just hope that descriptors like Cartoon Violence don't fool people into factoring in Nintendo titles when examining violent games.
