Nintendo thinks Tom Nook is misunderstood
Tom Nook isn't exactly a fan-favorite character in Animal Crossing. He's always there to yank out whatever hard-earned bells you've collected in a never-ending bid to build his empire. Nintendo knows you don't dig him, but they feel he's getting a bum wrap. Here's what an Animal Crossing: New Leaf director had to say to Kotaku on the matter.
"We think he is very misunderstood. He’s just passionate about his business. He’s not like a loan shark. He doesn’t add a handling fee or anything like that. He can wait as long as it takes for you to pay back. He’s not as bad as other people might think he is." - Aya Kyogoku
The point about waiting as long as you need is true. On the flip-side, your debt to Nook is always hanging over your head, impacting every decision you make!
