GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - How do you feel about Pokemon X/Y's broken street date?

One more day before my first trip to a Comic-Con! Very excited to check that out. I'll be tweeting/Instragram-ing from the show, so be sure to follow both! But first, let's get through Friday! See you in a few, short hours.

Nintendo is usually very protective of their games, no matter what they are. Nintendo likes to keep things quiet until they feel the time is right. Sometimes that might be months later than fans would expect. Even when review copies are finally sent out to the press, there are strict rules to follow. That was never more true than with the review guidelines for Pokemon X/Y.

Reviews have a ton of things to keep in mind when tackling the game's review before release. That's to be expected, but it seems that Nintendo has been equally strict with retailers. While we've heard about street dates on games before, Nintendo is taking the street date on Pokemon X/Y very seriously. Oddly enough, this seems to have resulted in even more retailers breaking the date.

By now, you know of some of the repercussions for these retailers. We've heard that Nintendo has flown out to at least one retailer to address the situation head-on, since it resulted in leaked information. We also saw some of the pamphlets sent to retailers on the street date and the consequences if the date was broken. It's very clear that Nintendo is going to handle street dates and retailers very differently in the future.

We know how Nintendo feels, but how about you? Do you think Nintendo is right to be so strict with their street date for Pokemon X/Y? This is the first time we're getting a worldwide release of a main Pokemon game, and it seems to be causing quite a headache for the Big N. Their reaction has been swift and retailers certainly knew what they were getting into. We understand that you have to play by Nintendo's rules when selling a product, but were the rules too strict to begin with?
