I'm confused. Someone, explain this Battle Mode for me.

You have 3 balloons in the beginning.
You'll collect items to hit other players.
Every time you get hit, you'll lose one balloon.
When you are out of balloons you can no longer win, but you can still try to hit other players with the various items.
Winner is the player who still has balloons after every other player lost theirs, or the one with most balloons when the time runs out.

I meant about specifically in this game, as I saw them battle in Normal tracks instead of Special Battle Courses. However, thank you either way. :)
Glad to see that Ghost thing is back. But, not sure what I Think about the lack of Battle Arenas.

Hopefully there will be stages specifically for battle mode. It will be disappointing otherwise.

*scratches head*

How did they think this is possibly a good idea [why ditch the arenas for race tracks]? :?

There better still be arena battle courses. :?

I don't quite understand this decision but I never really played battle mode anyways...

I used to play battle mode soooooo much with my friends/cousins in the SNES, N64 and GBA games. In fact we pretty much didn't play normal races. Somehow the newer games have failed to recapture what made the mode great in the first place, and this game sadly seems to be no exception (why no battle arenas???). Whatever, the rest of the game seems amazing.

I guess they haven't shown the arenas yet.

Why wasn't any battle mode details revealed on the direct unless I missed something? Can we play online?

Perhaps you can play battle mode rules on any normal course in addition to specific battle arenas.

Edit: from IGN "Battle Mode is back, but Nintendo explained that it would be a little different. Instead of arenas, the developers decided to take new and existing courses and re-engineer them for Battle Mode’s frantic style of play. I played a quick match on Moo Moo Meadows, and I consider this was a positive change. But I also though the controls for pulling a U-turn to chase another player could use a little improvement. Battle mode replays can also be edited and shared by Mario Kart TV."

Not sure I like this idea, from the look of moo moo farms it appears too large. Not sure what's going on at Nintendo and why it's so difficult to figure this mode out. I played battle mode on the Wii version only a few times given the absence of online play. I guess I need to see how the other modified battle courses play and if online play is included.

This really bothers me, is there really no arenas? MKWii's arenas were great, but what killed that game for me was the fact you were forced to play with AI players...

This is all I've wanted from battle mode: arena maps vs. friends, nothing else. I am sure I'm not alone. Why is that so hard to deliver?

Because they are Nintendo and always looking to change things up. Never do the same thing twice. Really battle mode on the N64 was perfect for me. Just give me that with online play and voice chat and I could play that for a long time with friends. I like everything I'm seeing though with the game, there's just those few small details that always bug me.

The problem is, change for change sake is rarely a good idea, changing up battle mode should really be with the addition of new modes and parameters on top of what works without taking away what made it beloved in the first place.

MK64 was my absolute favourite for battle mode as well, I was hoping with everything else they're doing right this time they'd think of giving us a traditional arena mode to round out the experience.

yeah, this is disappointing. I want Block Fort and other traditional style battle arenas. Battling it out on full blown race tracks doesn't make much sense. Don't get me wrong, I'm GLAD it's not mandatory Team Battle anymore. But with everything else they're doing for this game, it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't also just have regular battle arenas.

So the game seems to have one poor mark on it, along with no N64 Sherbet Land.

Otherwise, it still looks pretty great.
