GN Version 5.0

We still have an exciting announcement coming up! Should be able to talk about it later this week. So excited to share the news with you. Hang tight! See you in a few, short hours.

You guys all had a chance to go hands-on with Splatoon on the Wii U, thanks to the Global Testfire event. It may have just been a short 3 hours spread over two days, but there's no doubt that tons of you poured into the demo to check it out. The rush of people hitting up game retailers around the world during/after the demo went live seems to indicated many a happy gamer out there! Very glad to see things seem to have gone so well.

While you may not have had a LOT of time to really get a feel for the game, I'm sure you got the basics under your belt. You also got a chance to check out the game's various control options. Right off the bat, the game sticks you with motion controls. Some people didn't even realize that you could switch over to traditional dual analog! I watched word spread through Twitter/messageboards about the control options, which lead to a big debate about the options.

When I went to the Splatoon demo event in NYC, we didn't have the option to check out traditional controls. Nintendo wanted people playing motion controls, and that's just fine in my mind. The motion controls certainly work just fine for playing the game. You might have to wrap your head around the idea after using dual analog for years, but if you're willing to remap your brain a bit, you might be surprised with how well things work.

Of course, with the game being focused on online play, it's hard not to jump back into what you know. You want to be bringing your best game when playing online, and trying to do that while working with a new controller scheme might not make for the best experience. If you don't plan on playing single player and just hopping online, using motion controls might lead to a quick death.

Which version do you play? When you tried out the demo, which method did you end up sticking with? Are you willing to give both a shot, or are you going one way and staying with it?
