Challenge Dungeons

Manami, Alex and I had breakfast and chatted quite a bit about the game’s soundtrack and how Manami’s songs will be fitted into the game, specifically the Challenge Dungeons.

One of the things we wanted to experiment with these dungeons was to combine the beautiful soundscapes Jonathan makes with Manami’s own musical style. Because of the challenging nature of the gameplay of these dungeons, the music’s specifically tailored to pump you up as you fight through enemy waves and tread deeper and deeper.

Challenge Dungeons will be formatted differently from regular dungeons in that they’re shorter and more linear, but are much more difficult and have their own rules and logic, so having a different type of music will bring a breath of fresh air compared to how the rest of the game plays.

We’re still weighing whether to add the Challenge Dungeons before or after the game’s initial release. We want to take our time to make them fun to play instead of having to rush them in, so one option we’re leaning towards is to include them in a later patch/DLC among other cool things we want to add but can’t fit into the first release without making a big impact on our current development timelines. This would be a free thing for backers, of course. We'll do what makes more practical sense and keep you updated.

Grave of Ïggur - Dungeon Theme by Manami Matsumae

~ Backstory ~

Rumors exist of three graves that rest beneath the Valley of Ëliadin. Three monumental burial places for each of the three old gods of the earth: Ïggur, the soul shepherd of the North; Ënil, the blue windbearer; and Ëlohim, the wordwielder.

These hallow graves were built to keep within the wonders of a world prior even to the age of the fatherlands, and prior to the fall of the star that brought peace again to the earth.

Though the trace of these underchambers escapes memory today, perhaps they are like the desert grass, awaiting for the rain; or, like all good rumors, maybe just another tale.
