GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Is 2016 the most important year ever for Nintendo?

Anyone have a leg they want to give me? My right leg is acting up and making it quite hard to sit at a desk. I promise I'll take care of the good one you lend me! I just need to get some work done leading up to the weekend, then I can rest my regular leg a bit more. I'd be ever so grateful! See you in a few, short hours.

Nintendo has had a lot of ups and downs in its career. A lot of industry figures would have you believe that this year was the roughest one Nintendo has ever been through, but that's not really true. Nintendo has had home console troubles in the past. They've also had struggles with third party support and perception from consumers and the game industry alike. 2015 brought more of those issues for Nintendo to weather, but it's nothing they haven't been through before.

The problem is, a lot of people believe you're only as good as your current product. Your past moves and successes don't matter. If you have a release that's not as popular as your last, it's doom and gloom. That's not meant to try and paint a rosy picture for the Wii U. It's definitely Nintendo's least sold console so far, if you're not counting the Virtual Boy as a console. There are definitely changes that need to be made to bring Nintendo back to its former glory.

Here's the good part for Nintendo. They have gotten a lot of things right in the second half of 2015. They also have things lined up to pave the way for more success in 2016. amiibo are doing well, 3DS continues to sell, the NX is in the works, mobile games are releasing soon, there's a theme part deal in the works and so much more. That's all the stuff we know about right now, so you can bet there's a lot of other secret stuff in the works.

2016 will indeed be an important year for Nintendo. They are going to unveil the NX and they have to convince gamers around the world that this is the home console to have. With all that said, 2016 isn't the most important year Nintendo has ever had. The Big N may not be pulling in cash like it used to, but it still has plenty in reserve. There would need to be multiple significant bumps in the road to get them in some serious trouble. Right now they're just going through some uncharted waters, but Nintendo does that all the time. They even do this when they're riding high on successes.

Nintendo will come into/get out of 2016 alive. There's no imminent danger to worry about. With that said, the year is indeed going to be a very interesting one to watch.
