GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Games you can't stop buying re-releases of

GN Version 5.0

Very glad to see that the weekend has crept up on us again. I'm ready to embrace it with lots of naps and video games. You know, the best ways to enjoy the Summer! Maybe I'll throw some swimming in there...if I can find a pool! Those are some big plans, but we all have to get through Friday first! See you in a few, short hours.

Back in the 8 and 16 bit era, we were always hungry for brand-new games. We couldn't wait to get our grubby little mitts on the newest titles from our favorite developers. As soon as we were done rushing through one game, we'd look forward to the next release. We'd all pour through game magazines to find out about the titles just around the corner. Then we'd dive in again with a new game and start the process all over again.

As we moved into the 32-bit era, we started to see the beginnings of the re-release. Yes, there were a handful of titles that had gotten remakes/rereleases on previous systems, but it wasn't until the 32-bit era came along that the idea started to crop up more often. Once that idea reared its head, the industry jumped on it and drove it into the ground. Now we live in a time were games have been rereleased multiple times on all sorts of platforms. New printings, remakes, HD upgrades, virtual software services and more give us plenty of ways to revisit the games we used to play for hours on end.

I think everyone has a particular weakness when it comes to rereleases. Some may ignore a good 95% of games that get a rerelease, but every once in awhile a title comes along that you just can't resist. That special game that gets a new coat of paint, or comes in an anthology collection. Whatever the case may be, there's those select titles that you just can't stop picking up, no matter how many times you've already purchased it.

One BIG weakness for me is Streets of Rage II. I love the series, but the second game really struck a nerve with me. The gameplay, graphics and soundtrack came together in an amazing experience that I feel has only gotten better with age. I have so many different versions of the games across various platforms, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to download the 3D version on 3DS tonight. I just can't help myself...and I'm just as excited to play it as I was the first time on Genesis!

What game/games are you rerelease weakness? What titles do you keep re-buying no matter how many times you've played them? Leave a comment and let us know!
