GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - What should the next Mega Man game be?

Middle of the week already? I've got no problem with that! I hope your week is going well so far. Let's keep it going and work towards that weekend. That's where the real fun is! I'll see you in a few, short hours.

While Nintendo fans still have to wait for the 3DS release, today we saw Mega Man Legacy Collection hit consoles. It's not like you need the collection to play the games within. Mega Man 1 through 6 have been released on all sorts of formats, including various Nintendo portables/consoles. The Mega Man series was a hugely important part of the NES' library back in the day, and those games helped build the brand into what it is today.

That doesn't mean the franchise couldn't do with a shot in the arm nowadays. While Mega Man was a big deal when I was growing up, he hasn't quite held onto that stardom in recent years. The brand has fallen on rough times and its glory days seem to be behind it. That's not to say that things couldn't change up. We could get a game that brings the love back in a big way, including attention from newcomers. Mega Man Legacy Collection is indeed a ploy to make that happen.

But you have to wonder what else is going on behind Capcom's closed doors. You know there are ideas being tossed around for the next Mega Man game. It's something Capcom has struggled with for years now. While there may have been a few spin-offs and visual overhauls, it doesn't quite seem like Mega Man has found his way to really take advantage of the hardware and gameplay opportunities that the platforms of today provide.

Where does Capcom take Mega Man to give him a rebirth in this generation? I personally love the old-school style and would love to see that continue forever, but I also recognize that new things need to happen to bring in different consumers. I just don't know what that could be! Do you have any ideas as to what Capcom could do with Mega Man? Leave a comment and fill us in!
