GN Version 5.0

Paper Mario: Color Splash for Wii U was showcased as part of Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3 as part of Nintendo’s E3* coverage!

This is the latest title in the Paper Mario series, in which Mario and the world around him is made entirely of thin paper! Let’s take a look at what was shown during the Treehouse: Live at E3 session.

Investigate the mystery behind the colourless Toads!

In this title, Mario’s adventure begins under mysterious circumstances, as he has to find out why the Toads have lost their colour. They’ve gone completely blank!

Mario and his friends set off to Prism Island, which is suffering from a loss of colour. That’s where they meet Huey, a new paint can-like partner who will accompany them on this journey.

Mario and Huey must work together to collect the lost Paint Stars and figure out why colour is missing.

Battling and puzzle solving at Bloo Bay Beach

The first thing introduced during Treehouse: Live at E3 was Bloo Bay Beach. On this beach – which, like the rest of the world, is made completely of paper – an Oceanfest is being held by Toads.

Though the world is made of paper, the levels are in 3D. The game is full of hidden elements, too… If you go behind the shadows, you might find some out-of-sight items!

The Oceanfest venue. Everything is made of paper – even the beach and the waves!

Battles are based around cards. It’s important to plan and choose when to play which Battle Card!

For example, with a Jump card you can kick away Koopa Troopas in shell form, or you can use a Hammer card to deal damage to a group when multiple enemies are close to each other.

On top of that, this time you can also use Enemy Cards to have Bowser's troops join the fight on Mario’s side.

The game also features Action Commands, where you have to press the buttons on the Wii U GamePad at the right time in the middle of battle. If you’re successful, you can show off your skills by dealing more damage to the enemies, or block their attacks!

Oh look – an event is just starting in the Oceanfest venue…

One of these Toads has the key Mario needs to move forward. Finding out which one has it is going to be tricky!

Puzzles are introduced in the video as well. Paint is useful for many things, not just for fixing colourless spots!

Boss battles and Thing Cards

The stairs of the Crimson Tower, where a boss is waiting to battle, are broken. It’s not possible to go ahead…unless you use the Cutout feature.

When you use Cutout, the field becomes a single sheet of paper. Just cut the paper out along the lines and Mario will be able to move around by entering the alternative dimension on the other side!

The boss of the Crimson Tower is one of Bowser’s minions, Morton! He holds a burning Blazehammer!

During boss battles, the most important cards are Thing Cards, which allow you to execute powerful attacks repeatedly.

You could say that choosing where this card will be used is the most important part of the strategy to beat a boss!

Try using the Fire Extinguisher Thing Card and you’ll put out the flame of Morton’s Blazehammer, turning it into nothing more than a stick!

Thing Cards are very powerful and can be obtained by squeezing actual three-dimensional things.

For example, if you use the Thing Card obtained by squeezing a Cat-o-Luck, a giant Cat-o-Luck will appear with a super-flashy animation! It’ll crush your enemies flat.

Mario will find a variety of other Thing Cards as the adventure progresses! We can’t wait to see how much flashier the attacks triggered with some of these things will get!

Releasing on October 7th, Paper Mario: Color Splash is packed with fun elements, such as paper and paint-based puzzles, battles focused on the strategic use of Battle Cards, Thing Cards and extremely showy attacks!
