Nintendo Q1 FY 2016 full details - hardware/software sales, projects, million sellers more

First and third party release dates

Consolidate statements of income transition (Q3 2013 to 2017, left to right)

During the three-month period ended June 30, 2016, for Nintendo 3DS, Kirby: Planet Robobot, which was released globally, showed steady sales. In the U.S., BRAVELY SECOND: END LAYER was released, and in Europe, Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright/Conquest was released and both titles got off to a good start. As a result, the worldwide sales of Nintendo 3DS hardware and software were 0.94 million (7% decrease on a year-on-year basis) and 8.47 million units (7% increase on a year-on-year basis) respectively.

With respect to Wii U, in addition to titles such as Star Fox Zero/Guard and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which were released globally, Splatoon and Super Mario Maker which were released during the prior fiscal year showed steady sales. The global sales of Wii U hardware and software were 0.22 million (53% decrease on a year-on-year basis) and 4.68 million units (3% increase on a year-on-year basis) respectively.

For amiibo, the figure-type and the card-type sales remained at approximately 1.70 million units and 1.30 million units respectively mainly due to a lack of new titles that are compatible with amiibo.

Download sales decreased year on year because sales of in-game downloadable content were down.

In addition to these results, due to foreign exchange rates being impacted by significant yen appreciation, net sales were 61.9
billion yen (of which overseas sales were 44.8 billion yen or 72.3% of the total sales) and operating loss was 5.1 billion yen. As a result of exchange losses totaling 35.0 billion yen due to the appreciation of the yen, ordinary loss was 38.6 billion yen and loss attributable to owners of parent was 24.5 billion yen.

For Nintendo 3DS, we will release Pokémon Sun/Pokémon Moon globally in November. These are the latest titles from the
Pokémon series, which has sold 200 million units worldwide since the first title from the series released 20 years ago. We will also release Mario Party Star Rush this fall. Furthermore, multiple titles from third-party publishers are also scheduled for release. With the release of these titles, we will re-energize our Nintendo 3DS business and aim to expand our reach globally to a broad audience, including female and younger consumer demographics.

The dedicated gaming platform, code-named “NX,” which is currently under development and incorporates a brand-new concept,is scheduled for launch in March 2017 globally.

Furthermore, Nintendo will release Pokémon GO Plus, a peripheral for the mobile game app Pokémon GO(*) developed and
distributed by U.S.-based company Niantic, Inc. Pokémon GO Plus interacts with the app and lets players know when Pokémon are detected.

In addition, Nintendo plans to launch a miniature replica of the Nintendo Entertainment System, which was a phenomenon
in the 1980s, with 30 classic software titles pre-installed in overseas markets this November. For our smart-device business, following Miitomo, which launched in March this year, we will release new apps such as Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing. By continuously introducing apps for smart devices, we aim to maximize the population that has access to Nintendo IP. Alongside creating new demand, we aim to increase the synergistic effect on Nintendo’s dedicated game system business.

There is no revision to the consolidated financial forecast for this fiscal year, announced on April 27, 2016.

Same ol' same ol'. Nothing new or noteworthy. I'm sure they didn't appreciate that leak happening on the day of their meeting though.

It's not a leak, it's a rumour.

That's still potentially both. Every leak ever is a rumor until it's officially confirmed by its parent company

Exactly. And in this day and age you can't even trust photos as evidence, judging by the previous rumours about the controller.

Also, Smash Wii U has outsold the N64 version and Smash 3DS has outsold Melee. Nice! Well deserved.

Why don't they give us updates on DKCTF, Yarn Yoshi, and Hyrule Warriors? They have reached a million too.

Of course there are other million sellers, but my guess would be that they have to draw a line somewhere?

It's a top 10 best sellers list, not really Million sellers list.

Man, MK8 is absolutely huge.
That's about a 60% attach rate. It's insane.

Indeed, but to be fair if you own a Wii U and not Mario Kart I have to wonder why the heck you bought it in the first place, not like it has a lot of games.

Yes I suppose that's true ^^"

As a Majora's Mask fan I am saddened to not see it hit one mil. I thought it was great, making the game much more enjoyable than the N64 version. I'm hopeful it at least got close to it.

Also that image, I keep picturing that is how he will unveil the NX. Well, at least I wonder if it'll be him anyway.

Indeed. Majora's Mask 3D was excellent and it convinced me that Majora's Mask holds up much better than Ocarina of Time. Both are great games of course, but because Majora's Mask is more unique and its concept hasn't been copied by third parties (or Nintendo, lol) in other games, it feels a lot more fresh to this day.

One has what the other doesn't. MM doesn't have as many dungeons or memorable bosses.

Though to be fair it's either TP or OoT. I can't tell which one holds better. I think the weakest is SS and the Windwaker strays so far it can be treated as it's own thing.

SS looks pretty great visually, the gameplay got old after one playthrough though. I personally don't play Zeldas mainly for the dungeons so I was more than happy with MM's 4 dungeons but much expanded sidequest system.

That's why I sometimes fell graphics lend to diminishing returns, the gameplay isn't strong enough to justify repeated playthroughs (I think even if it had sidequests, the design isn't that enjoyable).

If you didn't notice the "last game" in the million seller mark is Oot at 4.6m. Anything lower than 4.6m was not shown. According to VGchartz, MM has sold 2.29m (they sometimes over track but usually under track because they don't include digital sales). According to them, there are 46 million seller games on the 3DS. This list only shows the top 10 best selling.

Mario Party 10, 1.81 million

Didn't See XCX or HW/L. Don't Know How they determine what exactly goes on the list. . .

He was talking about 3DS games though.

We have a Wii U top 10 and a 3DS top 10.

Because he made that point Very specific and you are correcting their 'mistake', for them. BTW,

Wii U/3DS million sellers updated totals

They are Mixed, and not even arranged by top sales OR system.

Mario Party 10, 1.81 million

I figured when you put this, you meant it as a way to show that there are games that sold less than OOT included in the list. Can't be certain, because that is all you put, with no context. He was clearly speaking only about 3DS titles, so MP10 is a moot thing to bring up.

They are Mixed, and not even arranged by top sales OR system.

Below is the list, copied directly from above.

Wii U/3DS million sellers updated totals
Mario Kart 8 - 7.70 million pcs.
New Super Mario Bros. U - 5.34 million pcs.
Nintendo Land - 5.10 million pcs.
Super Mario 3D World - 5.01 million pcs.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U - 4.90 million pcs.
Splatoon - 4.42 million pcs.
Super Mario Maker - 3.65 million pcs.
New Super Luigi U - 2.64 million pcs.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD - 1.82 million pcs.
Mario Party 10 - 1.81 million pcs.

Pokémon X/Pokémon Y - 14.98 million pcs.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon - 4.88 million pcs.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - 4.30 million pcs.

If you look a bit closer, you can see that it is in fact split into Wii U and 3DS (System) and goes in descending order in terms of sales (Top Sales).

It wasn't directly copied, you added a space and even Missed a space.
Either that, or the Sites code is Screwy in that regard. Would have done better to have a numbered list.

I also had to click the images to see the incoming game lineup. Only a few titles I saw worth the interest. And, it appears that PGR is now TBA, where before, I specifically remembered it being 2016. And isn't Star Rush Supposed to be November/October 7th/4th(To coincide with Amiibo Line release)?

The original question was about Majora's Mask and so I was spoke about the 3DS.
Now for HW/L, those games would have been counted separately as that is what they did for Smash Bros.
Using vgchartz for reference, HW sold 1.25m and HWL sold 0.35m granted these are both undertracked (due to not counted digital sales) but it's still well under 1.81m copies. XCX on the other hand has sold 0.82m (again it's undertracked). Most games are undertracked on the site, but it give you a rough number. According to them MP10 sold 1.52m and DKCTF sold 1.49m.

It's unlikely that HW (not including HWL) or XCX hve outsold MP10. I would LOVE to know how much DKCTF has sold though, that game is fantastic!

I understand that the way gonintendo set it up is a little confusing, but it's crystal clear on Nintendo's site.
It's "Top Selling Software Sells Units" and it's clearly only showing the top ten. https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/sales/software/index.html

Majora's Mask 3D easily hit 1M. It sold over 500K in its first month in the US, and was close to 450K in Japan. Those two #s alone pretty much puts it at 1M. As other folks have said, it's a list of top sellers AT least over 1M, but not all titles over 1M. All it means is that MM3D sold less than 4.6M.
