GameStop - Switch sales are "phenomenal", attach rate very high, system could eclipse Wii

Coming from GameStop senior director of merchandising, Eric Bright...

“The Nintendo Switch is off to a start right now that it could possibly eclipse the Wii. Initial sales on this have been phenomenal. I can’t give straight numbers, but I can say we’re seeing one of the highest attach rates of software and accessories to a device that we’ve seen in a long time.

We’re seeing tremendous success with the power chargers for the Nintendo Switch, as well as people coming in and picking up extra Joy-Con so people can turn it into a four-player device. We will soon be going online with all-new bundles. Because of the popularity of Zelda, which is one of my top picks, we’re putting together a Zelda bundle of hardware and accessories for customers to pick up online.”

Once again, the Wii is brought up in terms of sales. This time it's GameStop saying Switch might have the power to tackle Wii. I really don't think that's going to happen, but I love the positivity. I really hope I'm wrong, by the way!

I don't expect the Switch to eclipse the Wii, but it's nice to hear it's doing well.

100 million sold is very unlikely. It will probably sell as good as the 3DS.

Eclipse the Wii? That's kind of a dumb thing to say 2 weeks in, especially coming from a higher up at Gamestop.

I just hope it can beat Wii U numbers first. Then beat GameCube and n64. I don't see it beating the Wii long time numbers though.

Unless the Switch becomes the first in a line of incremental HW upgrades [like I think it will], then I doubt it'll best Wii's LTD sales. Heck, I don't think even the PS4 will get there before the 'PS5' releases.

Nice to see positivity pre and post-launch again for a Nintendo system though!

I do think the PS4 will get to 100M, mostly because Sony's consoles tend to have long legs. I'm not sure how much past that it'll go though.

But yeh like everyone else said, it's kind of premature to say this, and as much as the Switch looks awesome, it's not likely to be the Wii.

I still think it probably won't get those numbers but this is good news. If this keeps up they very likely get the mainline pokemon on this- THEN we will see the true explosion.

I believe it will as long as it's the system to also replace the 3DS eventually. Pokémon and Animal Crossing are games that sell over 10 mil each and if the next installments or two hit Switch along the way, having the other big hitters like Mario and having this positive word of mouth continue, there's little reason it can't.

Maybe if they annoujce Pokemon and Animal Crossing at E3 and have at least one of them for early 2018

And Monster Hunter for Japan.

This depends on what kind of games Nintendo brings to the console and of course, keep advertising!

I do hope it surpasses 50 million at the very least.

If you can't tell the numbers but can say the sales are great, why even mention such a thing in the first place?
