"All everyone talks about is their 'girlfriends.' I see them all standing in the shadows looking serious, and I go and see what's up and they're all bragging about their girlfriends -- like, 'Oh, she changed her hairstyle for me' and so on. I'm not gonna give his name, but there's one guy who hasn't had a girlfriend for decades and talking about his virtual friend makes him so incredibly happy. You pretty much never see Konami games becoming popular among the employees of Konami themselves. I think Love Plus is the first one. You see people sneaking in time with it in the bathrooms and so on; I guess they don't want to get caught playing it at their desks." - Hideo Kojima

Even better is this blurb from Kojima, which concerns a story about LovePlus that Suda51 told him...

"I was talking with Goichi Suda earlier, and told me about this guy he saw who went to a movie theater by himself but bought two tickets. Suda was curious, so he went in with him and saw him take his DS out of his backpack, open up the case and place it in the seat next to him. He had his 'girlfriend' on the screen!"

You can read more about Kojima's thoughts on LovePlus here

I thought loveless nerds in North America were sad... Once again, Japan sets the bar one notch higher.

This just in: Konami killed Japan.

As if their birth rate wasn't low enough, now it's going to plummet into oblivion.

Wow, that's... a little weird. I wonder if some people in NA would act the same way if the game came here.
Suda's story though, wow, I mean, sure bring your DS if you have to, but why buy a ticket for it? Lol, I could imagine someone not seeing the DS and sitting on it.

I'm actually with Kojima this time, Japan has some serious cultural issues.

So if this is so pathetic, why aren't women sweeping in to save these men from their misguided lonely lives? Oh right, because that would be stupid, these people are simply f***ed, why should anyone care?

Congratulations everyone, you're making fun of men with worse lives than you. You should be proud of yourselves.

It think it time that Otakus should now at the bottom of the Geek hierarchy. Yes, below LARPers, Furries, and people who write Buffy/Twilight crossover Fanfiction where Buffy falls in love with Edward.

... But do they treat said pixels like real girls, holding birthday parties and buying movie tickets for them, and refuse to go out with real women ever again?

Poor guys, they should masturbate a lot.

I can imagine some of them going to a motel with their DS...

@StarStabbedMoon

This is what I was thinking.

Sure the taking the digital girlfriend to a movie is kinda odd, let them do what they want. This is no different than how hardcore for Nintendo (or anyone for a company or brand, but hardcore Nintendo fans stick out in my mind) some people can be on here (almost as scary if you ask me).

I dont think that a lot of women would like to be with a man that takes his DS on a date. I just asked my Girlfriend and some other friends (women) their opinion, they think its pathetic and that they wont date a guy like that.

Im asking more women and this is the first word i get...

Perdedor

and that translates to Loser..

This is what japanese men say...

My (2D) girlfriend is Aika-san. She lets me meet her whenever I want and greets me with a smile if I forget a date - and she does not cost money. Thats all I need.

-Make reality more interesting than games please.

-To be honest, I don't want a (real) woman.

-The world in the monitor is reality. The world we live in is just imaginary.

I think Suda might incorporate that moment he witnessed into a new game. He's already made Travis a parody of otakus, so how about someone who's nerd levels outrank Travis? EPIC BATTLE COMMENCE!

This weirdness may explain why the game surprisely returned to the Top 10 several weeks ago, and stayed there until last week. It may also explain why some people are selling fake love letters given out to male office workers at Yahoo! Auctions and making money out of them. While it does not have the sales of Tomodachi Collection, it may be a cult favorite.
