Cave Story WiiWare - a reason for the new character outfit

Just last night, this image was found on the official Nicalis blog...

What's the reason for this new color costume? It sounds like there's more to it than just a color change, according to the official Cave Story Twitter.

"Hey, thanks for adding Cave Story! How do you like the new outfit? There's a reason for it, BTW"

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what this is all about? Thanks to Jer for the heads up.

Hmm, probably an indication of being in a different mode maybe? Who knows, palette swaps can mean possibly anything.

I guess the team at Nicalis couldn't figure out the "special programming" needed for the wii to handle the original outfit. (miyamoto joke)

co-op would be completely awesome, but when I saw it my first thoughts went to unlockable costumes, which it will probably be. I would love to be proved wrong, though.

I'm with Destructoid on this one. I think it could be the reason why the game was initially denied after submission to Nintendo. Now that the game has entered the realm of "Pay to play" - companies like Nintendo are enforcing areas where it looks like infringement.

Like Beefjack.com pointed out, he does look an awful lot like Ash from the Pokemon series... I'll be disappointed, but not surprised, if the game was delayed because of an issue of 'near infringement.

Then again, like others have said - lets hope for the best and that this means there is a 2 Player co-op mode!

OK, the new sprite is confirmed as the "Easy Mode Chicken Costume"

It was confirmed by Tiffany on Nicalis' forums. (She's the person doing all the good coding for this.)
