"We're taking advantage of MotionPlus. It's become very natural – the movement of your arms is precisely reflected in the gameplay. Thanks to the technological advancements, we hope the gameplay can be more accessible to people." - Eijii Aonuma

Mr. Aonuma also once again discussed the idea of playing around with the typical Zelda formula of dungeon/field/dungeon/field...

"We're making efforts regarding the total flow of the Zelda game. So far, the basic flow of the Zelda games is you're exploring a field, you go to a dungeon, you conquer it and return to the field. We're looking at altering that traditional flow. That's all I can share, and I can't say more until E3 next year."

Thanks to Robert for the heads up!

I'm pumped that it will definitely be revealed at E3 2010 because hot crap that will be awesome at least.

All changes so far sound great. It'd be awesome to see places that blur the line between overworld and dungeon; maybe you have to navigate some caves to cross a canyon that's been blocked off or something, and the boss is guarding the entrance rather than some trinket at the end. Change is good!

This was expected. The series does need some fresh ideas... but I'm still unsure if I'd like my classic Zelda messed with. :/

But what am I talking about... ? It's Zelda, so it's going to be awesome! :D

@WiiLikeSportz

Don't be so sure though. More information is probably a sure thing, but maybe they'll hold on revealing a trailer because of what happened with Twilight Princess.

Personally, I'd rather have this game mostly unspoiled. :)

I am interested in what they are going to do with the player needing to move his/her arms if the rumor of Link not getting the Master sword until later in the game is true. Maybe you'll just have a wooden sword with other awesome weapons until that moment occurs?

PS Please lets hold off the E3 talk already, because I'm already getting ideas about what just might happen... Nintendo's conference would start out confirming Zelda Wii will trailer and all, then we get to see Vitality Sensor unveiling with software, on to the montage of titles for the rest of 2010, then it ends on a surprise announcement of Retro Studios latest project (if its already not Zelda Wii)... damn 2010 is going to be a good year!

They talk about motion plus reflecting arms movment and suddenly everybody is interested!!!!

Why there isnt more games out there trying to do this????

Its what we expected from Wii Games from day one!!!!

What da hell is happening here?

Dont you all think is A LITTLE BIT STRANGE that everybody get excited when we heard about Motion Plus games...

Yet there´s only ONE 3rd party game coming out that uses the device (and i mean "REALLY" uses it)??????

I can't wait for this! I thought about how cool it would be in Twilight Princess to literally swing the ball and chain. Now with WM+ that looks possible. Since Aonuma is already taking care of how stale the series is, the only thing I really want from this is an orchestrated soundtrack.

Oh yes, make it only WM+ controlled Aonuma! A mix-up to the formula is blissfully welcome too.

Can't wait for the E3 unveiling. :-)

Here are my thoughts on Zelda Wii:

Since the speculation that the Master Sword is personified in that fairy woman, I think this will be another "origin" story: The origin of the Master Sword. It most likely takes place before Ocarina of Time, which is supposedly the very first Zelda chronologically.

The fairy woman grants her power to the Master Sword, enabling Link to finally wield the Blade of Evil's Bane for the first time. This sets off the events found in Ocarina of Time and subsequent games.

@Mirai

Ask Doc Brown (Back to the Future).

If time travel was possible, where are all the people from the future in our time period?

That is the main reason why I don't believe in time travel, or any possibilities of it. If it were possible, then there would be people from the future visiting us already.

Did WSR provide a way to choose between left and right handed swordplay [cos that may well be your answer]?

That's great to hear about the structure. I do hope in particular that they take a page from Okami and actually incorporate the dungeons into the world more.
They felt like very natural structures in Okami. In Zelda, they're just these big, mysteriously abandoned caverns. They were fun to play through, but they didn't feel very... organic.

@Chosenoneknuckles

You held the remote with both hands when playing fencing in WSR so I don't think it gave any hand options for that. I think it did for others though (like table tennis).

Anyway, way for MotionPlus Zelda!

The natural flow now will be: You live in a dungeon and you fight bosses on the field.

M+ Zelda is only logical.. but more than a year away so meh..

That doesn't sound very "Zelda" to me.

Okie dokeys. I'm right handed so I've never had to pay any attention to such options.

*Goes on to wonder if his SMG2 Summer and Zelda Wii Winter predictions will have any merit*

They have to change some bits, but they have to make it "zeldaesque". The flow was ok for me, but if it's something less linear It's perfect for me (though no Zelda but TP felt linear to me).

As long as it has the same spirit as the other games (the fantastic gameplay, full of freedom, yet coherent).
It's true that the dungeon-field mechanic needs a fresh coat of paint, but they'd better not go into the sand-box trap.

I was trying to be humorous :p..

I meant because he said they would change the usual flow of the series so I said the opposite.

But honestly I'm drawing a blank as to what they have in mind.. Maybe not all of the boss fights will take place in dungeons and more action will happen on Hyrule field.

Zelda should be sandbox
There still be dungeons but like the temple of the ocean king if you return with new iteams new areas will open. also zelda needs to take a page from chrono trigger and have diferrent endings based on what you do in the game.

(maybe a karma system?) also co-op and multiplayer vs(see fsa nsmb wii)

I think it will have an Oblivion-like aproach on this game... But something about this thing of detecting the move of your arms bugs me.. I hope they don't change the perspective to First Person..

As for the change on the flow... I think they could mix field and dungeon for example a dark forest or something that you need to go trough to access new areas and it would have puzzles, new itens and even bossess.. Like most of the RPGs out there... I Think it will rock!

COME TO ME NEW ZELDA! :D

@qko

Just because you dont have the Master Sword until later on, doesnt mean you will be using a wooden sword or other obscure weapons... In pretty much every Zelda game you just use a standard sword until the Master Sword comes along. It will probably be no different.

Also, Im not sure how you could think Zelda Wii is a Retro Studios project...

One only has to look at Wii Sports Resort and put two and two together as to how some of the new gameplay mechaines will work.

Awesome, glad to hear it.

Maybe it's because I've grown up some, but I can never get all that excited about a game until I actually SEE something on it. Like footage. Like, concrete details.

good, the flow (though ok) gets old.

i'd like to see the magic return and do almost an MMO type of thing, were link is forced (if the player wants to that is), to run around and do battle to level it up.

that would add a new (yet very old) twist to the game. the magic in zelda 2 was fun to use, and even some of the magical things used in later games were fun as well.

and actually having things outside the main quest to do would be nice. something deeper and more fun that rounding up chickens or goats.

i'd like to see an animal crossing style game with link (not the full game, but just for extra fun when you're not battling bad guys). bring back the shovel to.

the biggest issue with hyrule is that it's pretty straight and narrow, you do what you do to win the game and that's it. there is no real play, or extra fun that goes on. planing trees, changing the land, the look, the feel. it's all cookie cutter, this is how it is and that's all.

Things I'd like to see in the new Zelda Wii:

1. I don't mind backtracking. It was in the original NES game, and it was fun back then as it is now.

2. A better variety of locales and dungeon themes. The forest temple, the fire temple, the ice temple, the ancient temple....seems like these temples show up in every Zelda game. Let's mix it up a bit this time.

3. Flying. We've seen Link traverse the land via Epona. We've seen him traverse the waters via the King of Red Lions. And in Spirit Tracks he has his train. Link's never really traveled the skies though. How about giving Link an animal to ride the skies with, like a winged dragon.

4. Better weapon variety please.

5. Not since Wind Waker has the story/narrative been so good. Work on the story, and narrate a tale that actually makes players want to find out more and keep on playing.

5. I think the relationship between Link and Zelda should be explored deeper. He should have a better motive for saving her, not just because he is a hero or because he possesses the Triforce of Courage.

6. Ramp up the difficulty. Seriously. Zelda games are some of the easiest games around. It would be great if the puzzle creators of Professor Layton helped with the puzzles in Zelda. Also, the overall difficulty of boss battles needs to be worked on. When you can defeat a boss in less than 4 minutes, there's a problem.

7. Set the game in a different era. Seems like all the Zelda games of the last 10 years take place around Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker. Give us new locations, a new Hyrule, a new legend.

8. No Tingle. Please. Pretty please.

@ryan82

I think they should try a temple were you need to keep moving because poison agian(like totok from phg)

As much as I hate tingle we need him in game set before windwaker(with the hero of time) the link's an adult, other wise the story make no since(agian reffering to legend of the fairy*)

*I'm not explain this again if don't know, then look it up.
If you do know then you see my point.

Windwaker's the only good zelda story since '03 I would disagree, Tp,Tmc,Fsa,even phg had a good story so I don't see your point.
