Maxim has a pretty generic design = =
Otherwise, a fantastic looking game >:]

A more action based battle system, but it works. I like it, though my complaint is Maxim's modern style design. They could've kept it awesome ala Fire Emblem style.

Man! This game seems to be really good! I will keep my eyes on it. I hope we will see it coming to the West.

Probably an alternate universe of Lufia 2/Lufia's prologue without the umm...stuff happening.

Trying to be spoiler conscious here >_> I know I can be an ass but I'm not going to spoil games for someone, that just goes too far.

Frankly... my excitement just went down the toilet.

Why did you ruin a perfectly good game, Square-Enix? Why do you have to kill every single thing that you touch, nowadays?

And I hoped Grandia III would be the END of their careless treatment of franchises, at one point.

I've never played a Lufia game before so this'll be a first for me. Game looks damn good. Square really knows how to make good looking DS games.

Still not sure how good the party play will work out with an action-based battle system and those CGI-videos will be probably once again be redundant for the game (Square always wasted precious space for blurry intro-videos - let's hope Neverland doesn't just copy that trend).

But damn, this looks promising. Really promising. Anyone who never played Lufia 2 is in for one hell of a ride with this and anyone else needs to step over their shadows, if they think this game rapes the original.

Love the orchestric rearrangement of the Doom Island BGM from the japanese site - always saddens me a little how the DS can't manage such levels of sound.

They're taking the Shining Force Neo route with Lufia 2?

I'm excited for it as an RPG, but not anymore as a Lufia title. it's just too different.

Not sure how I feel about this. They're really taking it far from the original feel of the game. That could either be a very good or very bad move.

@Q_Mulative

It looks that way. As it is, Lufia is now as dead to me as Shining Force is.

Why can't we have nice, turn-based RPGs anymore? :( Especially when Lufia II had one of the best battle systems I've ever used?

@Astram
No! It's not dead because it's not a remake, a port or a new game. It's reimagining of the second game, you really have to expect something very different and not the same game.

HOLY GAWD!

@rpguy_ad
So sad what they did to SF... SF2 is my favorite Genesis game.
At least this looks really, really good. There are plenty of good turn based RPGs out there for the DS.

Hey guys. When did you become such hypocrites?

If I recall whenever something from Nintendo goes in a different than expected direction people will rush to the aid of that game to justify that people should PLAY the game before passing it off. Case in point: Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Suddenly Neverland gets hired by Square Enix (now owning Taito the ORIGINAL publishers of the franchise) to do a remake/reimagining of Lufia and suddenly you judge the game without even playing it.

Try practicing what you preach instead of picking and choosing which franchises where the rule should apply.

If you want the old Lufia, pick up the two SNES games, the Gameboy Color game or Game Boy Advance games.

Neverland Corp, the ORIGINAL team behind the series is making this game and they're the ones making the decisions NOT Square-Enix which is merely acting as publisher in Taito's place.

Confusing the roles of publisher and developer is almost as stupid as making the claim that LJN developed Roger Rabbit and Nightmare on Elm Street (I guarantee saying this on Lost Levels or GDRI's tweets awards you a slap in the face, because RARE developed and coded those games).

I have my doubts too but at least I'm willing to play this game for a fresh new look on the series not just have the mindset I'm getting the Matrix developed FF remake treatment with Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals/Estopolis Denki II.

Proof that Square-Enix isn't behind the "executive meddling" of this game

From the interview:
# Square Enix asked them if they would like to do a new Estpolis game
# The second game’s system was a lot more refined, the scenario and music were well liked, and it took place before the first game too, so we decided to use the second game as the motif (Kojima Hajime)
# We didn’t want to do a straight port (Ukeda Naoyuki)
# Square Enix told us that we’re free to do whatever we ant (Ukeda)
# So that’s what we’ll do! (Ukeda)
# Turn based command battle systems aren’t new anymore, so we’re making it an action rpg now (Kojima)
# It’s not just a remake, we’re rebuilding the story, the characters, and the world settings (Miyata Masahide)
# The hadou weapons will be a key component of the story, the world is different from the SFC version (Miyata)
# The bottom screen will only be used to switch characters (Kojima)
# The game will revolve around the D-pad more than the touch pen (Kojima)
# Boss battles will use two screens, it has its own special code for that part (Ukeda)
# Boss battles will be hard if you don’t know what to do against each one of them (Miyata)
# “It will satisfy action game players, but players that are bad with action games will be okay too” by Kojima
# Scenario is based on the second game, there are parts where we are deliberately letting them say the exact same words as in the original game (Miyata)
# But basically, everything is rewritten (Miyata)
# The number of towns that are appearing in the game is different from the original two games (Miyata)
# There will be parts in the game which will make fans of the series smile (Miyata)
# Miyata has surprisingly not changed at all. He’s just embarrassed reading his scenario from 15 years ago (Ukeda)
# The music is being brought over from the original two games (Ukeda)
# We changed the sound quality without messing with the melody line (Ukeda)
# The main staff from the SFC versions are making this game. It’s rare to have something like that 15 years after the last game (Ukeda)
# Stuff such as “Mahou no XXXX Magical XXXXXX” from the original are still in the game (Kojima)
# We changed a lot in the game, but we constantly kept in our minds that “we should keep the parts that made the series what it is” (Kojima)

Square-Enix changed this game? Think again.
