The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - the cannon save bug

Remember when we all found out about the cannon bug in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess? I tried to spread word as fast as I could, but some of our poor readers found out about the bug the hard way. Thankfully, later editions of the game did away with the issue. Not exactly the best way to launch into a new system, eh Nintendo?!

@DarkShadow

Same here - I guess it was before my time as a Nintendo fan but I thought I would have caught wind of what seems to have been a major catastrophe...

This was far from a huge bug... in fact like 90% of the millions of people who played it didn't even encounter it.

Not to mention most zelda players backup saves.

"Or just buy the Gamecube version and you won't have to put up with game-ending bugs, gimmick controls and mirror-universe oddities. Link's a lefty, damn it. Don't mess with success. "

We're angry about what hand Link holds his sword with now? Gaming has reached this low?

@PsychoDuck

Hey hold up PsychoDuck I'ma let you finish and all but SOUL CALIBUR III was one of the worst bugs of all time! *gets boo'd off stage*

Anyway the article was a good read just for kicks. Didn't care about the guy's other comments about Twilight Princess Wii. "Link's a lefty damn it." Well get used to righty Link you person because the artwork from E3 confirmed he's right handed again. Don't most lefties use the nunchuck in the left hand anyway? The left hand being the "control sitck hand" seems like the norm no matter your hand orientation (the analog stick used by the right hand is not commonly used for moving your characters forward and back).

Oh yeah and try to tell that to the 2D games where Link is always switching hands based on perspective, lol (Miyamoto's ambidextrious so why can't his characters be the same?).

People haven't heard of this? I remember seeing it all over the place back in 2006. Pretty sure it got at least three mentions on this very website.

...am I the only person here who's been on GoNintendo that long? I feel old now... Or maybe I just have a crazy memory. That's probably it.

Didn't knew about the Zelda bug, I'm surprised the list doesn't have the game ending Metroid Prime 2 bug

"DO NOT SAVE AT ANY TIME FOR THE NEXT 10 GAMEPLAY MINUTES! THERE IS A
SMALL BOSS COMING UP BUT THERE IS ALSO A GLITCH WITH THE ECHO VISOR AND THE
SONIC TARGETS THAT CAN MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPLETE THE GAME IF YOU MESS UP
AND SAVE AFTERWARDS!"

The Wii version of Twilight Princess has basically been the bane of everything really.

It delayed the game for one, something that wowed everyone back in E3 2004 apparently became underwhelming to some on release in the back end of 2006. The game lost the impact it deserved because of the Wii version.

It created the 'Twilight Hack' that allowed homebrew and naturally piracy onto the system.

The Gamecube could have really used it to be honest, not only for it being a killer app but because it would have shown Nintendo do appreciate darker material (which many fools assumed they didn't, even after Eternal Darkness).

@WiiFolder

Yeah, because him switching hands was the only difference, lol.

@Dr_Peace

There are hacks for Lego Indiana Jones, SSB Brawl, even ones that don't evem require a game like BannerBomb. Not having Twilight Princess on Wii wouldn't have stopped anything.

No, I was about to say the exact same thing. It was posted here a lot of times to remind people. I remember reading the warnings on here. Old school members FTW.

If you had bothered to even read the article, you'd know that Twilight Princess isn't anywhere near number one.

I can't fathom how people didn't hear of this.

Also, I am surprised it was missing:

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (Japanese)
Fatal Frame IV

Diamond/Pearl has a glitch where you can surf out of the Elite 4 and, if you follow instructions, can find/catch Darkrai and Shaymin (you can actually do this in the English ones too, but a completely different method). The problem was, if you saved at the wrong spot, checked certain menus or did ANYTHING wrong, you could destroy your whole game save.

Fatal Frame IV, like Twilight Princess, is only encountered if you did something completely wrong that you'd have no real reason to do (going somewhere before doing something else), and all it did was crash the game. People who try to act like it was a bad game use this as a reason, but I haven't met many people who have actually experienced the bug. It's just that they know it's there.

@Dr_Peace

Twilight Hack was only created because most people owned Twilight Princess, so it was easier for more people to use.

It could've been any other game (as kiwisoup said, there are ones for LEGO Indiana Jones and Brawl as well). It could've just as easily been Wii Sports or Super Paper Mario.

I dunno. It sucks that it was in the game, but it just seems like an odd place to save and stop the game to me....so I don't feel like it's that big of a deal.

I hate the starforce copy protection so much. When I installed it on my computer I could no longer start it and had reformat my entire harddrive and reinstall everything.

I was hit by this bug. I was playing the game with my son, and it was dinner time, so we saved the game. I hadn't heard of the bug ahead of time, and ended up having to wait 2 weeks to get a new version of the game after mailing mine in. The funny thing was that the person on the phone with Nintendo insisted that I had to mail mine back first, as they were "fixing" my game, not replacing the disk.
