The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - another round of new details
The following information details the early stages of the game, including tutorial details and storyline information. If you don't want to have these things spoiled for you, do not hit the jump for the summary.
- game opens with Link sleeping in his bed
- A mysterious voice begins to speak to Link
- this voice wakes Link up, to which he is greeted by a Loftwing
- the Loftwing sticks its head inside Link's window
- this leads to quick tutorials mixed between character and story development
- you'll meet Pipit, a young resident of Skyloft wearing a very familiar outfit, early on
- Pipit is wearing Link's tunic, but in yellow
- the classic tunic is the battle outfit of members at the knight academy
- the color denotes the year of graduation
- early task has you bringing a barrel of food to the kitchen
- this teaches you MotionPlus ins and outs, as well as how to throw and roll via movement with the Wii remot
- also go through quick lessons on Z-targeting, dashing, climbing, auto-jumping and save points and the bulk of Link's movement abilities
- the save points have you "praying to the goddess" at bird statues
- the statues serve another purpose later in the game
- Zelda is introduced as an old childhood friend of Link's
- Zelda is the daughter of Headmaster Gaepora of the Knight Academy
- one of the first things Zelda does is pull Link off the edge of a cliff in order to help him practice Loftwing races
- this leads to a tutorial on flying
- Groose steals Link's Crimson Loftwing
- the quest of getting it back gets you your sword and basic combat training
- eventually you'll enter a cave, which leads to fighting basic enemies like Keese (bats) and Chu Chus (small slime monsters
- you'll then rescue your Loftwing and proceed to a race
- Link and Zelda celebrate when Link wins the race, but then a dark tornado comes and swallows up Zelda
- this knocks Link out, but he's awakened later by Fi
- Fi takes Link to a secret chamber, where he is given the Goddess Sword and some direction to recovering Zeld
- Link is also visited by Gaepora, who gives you your green tunic and tells you his knowledge of the Goddess Sword
- Skyloft also has a lake to explore
