Not that long ago, GameSpot had a feature on an item that appeared in Skyward Sword. It was a classic Zelda item, but we hadn't heard of it appearing in Link's latest outing until that article. Unfortunately, tonight we've learned that GameSpot's information was incorrect. Hit the jump to find out what's up.

The boomerang was the item that GameSpot said was in Skyward Sword, but that's not the case. A recent Iwata Asks states that the team wanted to put in a boomerang that was MotionPlus-controlled, but then they though controlling a boomerang to go wherever you wanted just didn't fit with a boomerang.

As you can probably guess, the boomerang was turned into the beetle to meet the desires of the dev team. That's why it performs other actions that the boomerang is known for, including grabbing items.

While this solved some issues with the lack of boomerang, the dev team found issues with the bettle being able to fly anywhere. They didn't want players to be able to see/reach things via beetle that they weren't yet supposed to see. I guess that made development a lot tougher!
