Comparing Dragon Quest X sales to recent Dragon Quest titles
MMOs just aren't all that big in Japan. Do things change when you slap a Dragon Quest brand on that style of game? You've seen the first week sales of Dragon Quest X in a post earlier today, but here's some info on how it compares to previous games in the series.
- Dragon Quest IX sold 2,353,440 in its first week
- Dragon Quest VIII sold 2,237,000 in its first wee
- these numbers pertained to two days worth of sales
- Dragon Quest X sold 420,311 over a 4-day period
As you can see, the game going MMO made for a hugely negative impact on sales. The thing is, Square-Enix will most likely make up a ton of that cash in online access fees. It's also possible that people are waiting for the Wii U version.
