Studio City Connection has announced that they will be re-releasing Akai Katana from developer Cave for release in 2022. Akai Katana is a retro style bullet hell shooter game, initially released in Japanese arcades in 2010. This release is being handled internally by City Connection’s team known as TAKExOFF. TAKExOFF previously worked on the new version of Death Smiles I & II, which was recently announced for a PC release.

A specific release date and price point have not yet been announced, but we’ll let you know when that happens. For a look at a few minutes of gameplay from the Switch version of Akai Katana, watch the YouTube video above at around the 33 minute mark.

The Switch is pretty much the go-to console for shmup fans these days. I’ll be keeping an eye out for a release date.

This is one of my favorites, and was really hoping to see it on Switch. It's one of the only reasons I keep my Xbox 360 out of storage.
