Rune Factory 5's localization took 2 years to complete

Sounds like the team was just a tad busy...

Localization for any game can take a bit of time, but obviously things vary greatly depending on how text-heavy an experience is. When it comes to an RPG-style title like Rune Factory 5, the work is exceedingly tough.

In an interview with Siliconera, Assistant Localization Manager Lori Snyder discussed the immense amount of work that went into localizing Rune Factory 5. Wrapping up the project led to a multi-year commitment, which you can read more about below.

We began receiving localization materials, like character information and early text files, around February 2020. Since the game was a massive undertaking to localize with over 1.5 million Japanese characters and over a month’s worth of voice recording to accommodate, it took about two years to complete the localization for this title from those early notes to our final release.

To be fair, they really shouldn't. It's part of why Xseed has lost so many licenses and staff who followed those. They've done good work in the past, but its always accompanied by a lot of frivolous to complete unnecessary changes along with a whole lot of justification to fans on why they are taking so long. And now we don't even particularly the "good work" part of that.
