Sonic is currently finding success in the cinemas, and Mario’s about to try things again with an Illumination project. With these big-name characters heading to the movies, it makes you wonder if we could ever see some sort of Smash Bros.-style cinematic collaboration.

If that were ever to happen, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 director Jeff Fowler would love to tackle it. In an interview with Comicbook.com, Fowler opened up about his interest in such a project.

“Nothing would make me happier than to just throw all the characters into a battle royale and do a big Smash Bros. thing. That would probably require some work from the lawyers before that could happen. Getting Mario and Sonic in the ring, I mean everyone would be kinda dying for that, right? That’s just classic.”

As of right now, there are no such plans for a Smash Bros. movie, but you never know what the future holds. Cinematic universes are all the rage right now, an Nintendo could certainly usher in a universe of their own when it comes to cinema.

That would be huge. Nintendo should at least consider with all the success the Sonic films are having right now. And, we would know the direction of the next Smash game. Super Smash Bros. the movie the game.

Maybe when the Mario movie releases Nintendo would consider it. I personally would love it, even if it was terrible.

I'd love it too. After all, I like the first mario movie. It's so bad it's good!
