Back in 2018, you might remember that word started to spread of Nintendo releasing a revamped version of the Switch. While that version was identical to the original Switch in terms of horsepower and looks, there were some changes under the hood. Now, according to Nintendo’s lawyer, we know Nintendo released that version of the Switch to combat piracy.

In courtroom documents pertaining to Nintendo’s piracy case against Team Xecuter’s Gary Bowser, Nintendo lawyer Ajay Singh stressed how hard Nintendo had to fight in order to quell this illegal activity. You can see Singh’s full statement below.

“Finally, Nintendo had to release a new version of our hardware in response to one of these hacking tools, and this modification entailed countless hours of engineering and adjustments to our global manufacturing and distribution chains and, of course corresponding resources. To be clear, these effects are a direct result of the defendant and Team Xecuter attacking our technological protection measures.”

This was no doubt a very costly endeavor for Nintendo, and once again shows why the Big N goes so hard after the piracy scene. Nintendo most likely knows they’ll never win the fight against piracy completely, but they’re certainly going to do all they can to hinder piracy efforts and hackers.
