Those of you who’ve followed GoNintendo for years now probably know how much game music means to me. I’ve never felt game composers or their soundtracks got anywhere near the attention or recognition they deserved. Thankfully, a big step in the right direction has just been announced.

The Grammy Awards have revealed that they’re officially adding a Best Video Game Score to this year’s ceremony, but we don’t have nominees just yet. What we do have is an official description of the category, which you can find below.

“Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media: Recognizes excellence in score soundtrack albums comprised predominantly of original scores and created specifically for, or as a companion to, a current video game or other interactive media released within the qualification period.”

Finally! It's crazy how this hadn't been done yet... It's weird when people dismiss a category just because it's of a different medium.

About time. I can name a dozen videogame soundtracks that are better than anything the Grammys had over the last few years.
