UPDATE: Well, maybe not…

While Sonic Frontiers is the newest Sonic game on the block, fans are always hoping that SEGA will return to the Sonic Adventure series one day. Thankfully, it seems that hope isn’t lost on Sonic Team.

In an interview with IGN, Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka opens up about his interest in returning to the Sonic Adventure franchise one day.

I’ve mentioned this in previous interviews, but I would like to continue the Sonic Adventure series. Sonic Adventure also contains smaller open spaces known as Adventure Fields. I think we’ve used what we learned with those in this game as well. I haven’t thought about my next game yet. But I personally think it’d be nice if we could use what we learn with this game in Sonic Adventure.

Maybe they should focus on making a great Sonic game first. It's been almost 30 years from the core Sonic Team. They've been outclassed.

That would be a change from how they've been doing things since after Sonic Adventure 2 and even that didn't have the same style as 1. They've been trying to reinvent each time instead of focusing on the things that work and refining that and then adding to that core.

After a long series of missteps I wonder if one should take this as a threat.

Too little too late seeing the staff behind the adventure games are long gone...
