According to NPD, the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling system in the US during June 2022 in unit sales, but unlike the previous month, PlayStation 5 edged it out in terms of dollars earned. Of the top 20 best-selling games in June, 7 of them were published by Nintendo. Mario Strikers: Battle League was the third best-selling game overall, with Elden Ring from publisher Bandai Namco and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga from publisher Warner Bros. Interactive coming in first and second place respectively.

Here is the complete list for the top 20 sellers and the top 10 sellers on Nintendo platforms specifically, but keep in mind that digital sales are not included in the data for Switch nor Xbox releases:

Nintendo is very clearly struggling in ways we've never seen. And are at rock-bottom on a historic level. How oh how will they ever survive if they don't release a Switch Pro immediately? Goodbye Nintendo, it was nice knowing you. Thanks for the memories.

It's actually going to be very interesting to see what Nintendo has when the Switch's sales start dropping, which they will one day anyway. I'm pretty sure they dropped the "Pro". It's just too late for it unless they want to take an iPhone approach. So I am guessing they are tinkering with the successor day by day and waiting to see what happens with the Switch's sales (as mentioned).

But they are killing it with the Switch now anyways. This year is pretty darn good, and many great games are yet to come. And next year BOTW2 alone is huge. That September Direct, if it even happens at all, could hint at some things!

Interesting times.

While I understand, and appreciate, the enormous amount of sarcasm in your post, it will be interesting to see what Nintendo does next.

I say that because it’s the first time, pretty much ever, that they don’t have two hardware lines going where one (usually the handheld) can support the business if the new system struggles (Gamecube or Wii U).

What I think will happen is that Nintendo will release a new system (2024) in the same modality as Switch (being a hybrid) and that it will be backwards compatible with Switch games. But they’ll also maintain the Switch and the new System for a transitionary phase with cross gen games for 12-18 months before games become exclusive to the new System.

But what do I know? Just a theory and speculation. I’m just along for the ride whatever Nintendo does.

I think I might have accidentally reported this post. If so I apologize to both you and the GN team for the inconvenience!

Anyway! I wrote a reply but it didn't get through so I'll try again =)

1: I think Furakawa (?) sad they will continue with the hybrid style/Switch for at least one more generation. With the success of the Switch I can see why. If they play their hanafuda cards right with it, giving it enough power, better online, a new feature (because Nintendo) etc I think they can keep the hybrid idea a success for many more years. It just...works. They also have a long-term deal with Nvidia and even if the new chips will be completely different from what's in the Switch today I am 100% they'll find a way for BC to work perfectly from the get-go. The Switch games on Switch 2 running better or being upscaled etc is the bigger question.

2: Timing: As I wrote in my other post they'll just have to wait and see howthe Switch does. When sales really drop they'll surely put more focus on the new system. This year Nintendo are killing it with quality title after quality title and third parties are on the wagon too. But I truly think that next year, with BOTW2 as the swansong, will be Switch's last big year before they release their tiny next beast. I can agree on a 2024 release for a successor. The "Pro" is dead methinks. The chip shortage killed it off, so full focs on Switch now and having the Switch 2 ready soon. Of course they'll have to wait for what specs it gets. Timing is important.

No worries :)

To be honest, I never believed a Switch Pro was ever on the cards. BC shouldn’t be difficult if they keep the Nvidia hardware line. I think run better should be doable for Switch games, like no frame drops in Korok Forrest, but upscaling might require work to the games themselves.

I think for the masses, Nintendo needs to make “better” joy-cons for the next system but allow forward compatibility with gen-1 joy-cons if possible. Personally I’ve never had drift or issues with joy-con but I know others have.

Specs-wise, I don’t see full 4K. I can see hopefully 60@1440p docked which realistically would be it in line with the base level for Xbox Series S and PS5. On those systems “performance mode” is typically 60@1440p and “quality mode” is 30@4k so there wouldn’t be any horsepower reason third party games wouldn’t come to that hypothetical Nintendo system. They’d just be locked to “performance mode”.

"No worries :)"

Oh so good. Thanks! =) Maybe having the "report" button just by the "reply" button is a bit too tricky for a tired me! =D

Anyway! I don't believe in rumours, but I do read them all and there was a rumour from Bloomberg I think that there was a "Pro" in the works but because of the global chip shortage they had to axe it but to release SOMETHING they went with the OLED instead. The reason I pay attention to this rumour is that it's very probable since Nintendo wants to push the Switch brand as far as they can with it's insane success. It outsold the Wii already, dammitt.

BC? Yes they work with Nvidia and will for a long time, BUT Nvidia's new chips are WAY different than the Tegra used in the Switch, so they'll have to be tricksters to fix a perfect BC. But if they have to be tricksters I wouldn't be surprised Switch games would run better on the Switch 2 because they'll be working on it anyway.

(USe contact spray on the joy-cons and drifts are gone! =) )

Will be interesting to see what Nintendo have up their sleeves with their next system. They still can surprise us after all these years =D
