Sonic Frontiers is extremely important to the future of the Sonic franchise…so long as it’s a success. SEGA clearly has big plans for Sonic going forward, and they all start with Sonic Frontiers.

In an interview with Game Informer, Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka spoke candidly about the future of Sonic. Iizuka stated that the path for future Sonic games will very much rely on the success of Sonic Frontiers.

“(the goal of this project from the start was) to evolve the linear, stage-clearing 3D action that began with Sonic Adventure in 1998 and create a game that would be the cornerstone of future Sonic games.”

What happens if Sonic Frontiers misses the mark? SEGA obviously isn’t talking about that, and hopefully fans won’t have to either. We’ll all find out for ourselves when Sonic Frontiers launches later this year.

Well they got a lot to prove. I'm actually surprised by how forgiving people are regarding that first look at gameplay a month back. Sonic fans have a lot of good will to spare but all of that will be meaningless if the game doesn't turn out good.

That's a very bold statement to make. Let's hope they don't end up with egg(man) on their face.

If history has proven itself, they said the same for Forces and look what happened...
