Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, has taken to Twitter to share some more behind-the-scenes footage from the original Mortal Kombat. This time around, we get to see how both Scorpion and Sub-Zero came to be through the original motion capture sessions.

Boon elaborates on Twitter, saying that a lot of the characteristics for both characters were created on the fly. Not surprisingly, the idea of two similar-looking ninjas came from technical necessity, due to dealing with limited memory and horsepower. Still, Boon wanted both characters to feel different, which is why Scorpion and Sub-Zero were given different stances.

As you’ll see in the footage above, a number of stances were considered for both characters, but many were left on the cutting room floor. At least they live on today through this test footage!

Man, seeing those behind the scenes videos are incredible! It's a nice piece of history that we haven't seen before until now and as a fan of the older arcade titles, it makes me grin so hard on the inside watching them!

Watching this video reminds me of how much I’d love to have the MK Trilogy on my Switch!
