For those keeping count, Nintendo has said on three separate occasions that they won’t be increasing the price of the Switch. Rumblings of console price increases started when Sony was cagey with their response to a question about a PS5 price hike, and now we know why, as the company has indeed raised the price in a number of regions. When Sony was first asked that question, Nintendo repeatedly said they wouldn’t be bumping the Switch’s price.

Now that Sony has gone through with the price hike, Nintendo was once again asked about the same thing happening to Switch. You should definitely know the answer by now, but just in case you’re still worried, Nintendo is here to assuage fears once more. Nintendo will not be increasing the Switch’s price, and you can read their latest statement on the matter below.

“As our president Mr Furukawa stated at the 82nd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in June:

“‘While we cannot comment on pricing strategies, we currently do not have any plans to change the price of our hardware due to inflation or increased procurement costs in each country. We will determine our future pricing strategies through careful and continued deliberations.’

“While the final price to consumers is always determined by retailers, as Mr Furukawa stated, Nintendo has no plans to increase the trade price of its hardware.”

Man, Sony made a big mistake raising the price of the PS5. Everyone else can dunk on them without really changing the strategy they were already going on.

Idk if this is really true though. With the way ps5s have been selling it will definitely still sell out everywhere. More money per unit.

Except that many who considered buying the console like myself (if some stock were to miraculously appear at my local electronics store) dropped the idea now.
Food and gas are getting more expensive than ever and at some point I have to draw the line.

This is absolute nonsense from Nintendo, and those in the media should be calling them out over it. The Switch is 5 and a half years old, it was old tech back then and it's creaking now. Part of the reason why Switch doesn't have the production issues anywhere near that of Sony and Microsoft, is precisely because it's old tech and easier to get parts and assemble. It's understandable for Sony and Microsoft to raise their prices, which Sony have done, because they're next gen consoles. Switch is barely more powerful than the Wii U, which released in 2012 and was criticized by many at the time for being weak.

If all things were equal and normal, and if Nintendo were a generous company, which they're most certainly not, they could afford a substantial price cut to Switch. The circumstances now just means, Nintendo can forget about a price cut, or it would be minimal. But for Nintendo to be coming out and saying they won't be increasing the price of the Switch, like they're being kind and generous, is disingenuous. And it's like they're trying to normalize or prepare people for a price hike in the future.
