Bandai Namco revealed Tales of Symphonia Remastered for Switch in yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, bringing a big smile to Tales fans the world over. We’re even getting a physical release, which includes a ‘Chosen’ edition that packs in some extra goodies. That’s plenty of reason to celebrate, but there is one tidbit that might foster a bit of disappointment in supporters.

The official Japanese website for Tales of Symphonia Remastered covers pretty much all the same details we shared earlier today, including screens, the trailer, and more. Along with that is one tidbit that hasn’t been mentioned anywhere else, though. According to the website, Tales of Symphonia Remastered is going to run at 30 fps.

Just to be clear, Tales of Symphonia Remastered will run at 30 fps on all platforms, so we’re not just talking about the Switch version here. While seeing the Switch version run at 30 fps is a bit of a bummer, it’s also not too surprising. Hearing that the PS4/XB1 versions also run at 30 fps is more of a shocker. The biggest shocker is that all of these versions run at 30 fps, while the original GameCube release managed 60 fps!

Finally, a few other tech tidbits were shared. We now know that the game will run at 1080p docked/720p portable, the file size clocks in at 11 GB, you’ll have access to 100 save files, and there’s 4-player local co-op support.

It's not surprising even on PS4/XB1 actually. It's based on the PS3 remaster, which was based on the PS2 version. All of which ran at 30fps. Only the original Gamecube version has ever run at 60fps.

@marl0

That's a fact I didn't know! I'm going to add that tidbit to the post.

I'm assuming this version will also have a fixed camera for battles in co-op. In the GCN original, the camera only focused on the first player. You could play in co-op but your allies would frequently be fighting off screen. Not impossible to play but it definitely sucked the enjoyment of multiplayer out of the game.

There was no excuse for the framerate on PS3, and there's even less of one now. It's ridiculous how lazy this company can be sometimes...
