Ever since we got our first gameplay trailer for Bayonetta 3, fans have been wondering if the game hides a secret about Bayonetta herself. Thanks to Bayonetta’s braided hairstyle, fans were thinking we were actually seeing Cereza in action.

For those who don’t know, Cereza is the littler girl seen above. She tagged along with Bayonetta in the original game, and there’s actually a lot more to that story, but it definitely gets into spoiler territory. There’s still plenty of time left to play that adventure before Bayonetta 3 launches, so get to it!

Now that we’re clear on who Cereza is, are we really seeing her as the main character in Bayonetta 3, albeit all grown up? Game Informer spoke to director Yusuke Miyata to find out, but the answer only muddies the waters.

“I can neither confirm nor deny whether this is a grown-up version of Cereza. Since this game involves the multiverse concept, she could be Bayonetta from an alternate universe who happens to look just like Cereza, or it could be the grown-up Cereza. I’d like to leave this up to players’ imaginations as they enjoy the game.”

Will Bayonetta 3 actually give us a definite answer to the question, or are we going to be left to our imaginations even after the credits roll? I guess we’ll have to play Bayonetta 3 later this month to find out!

SPOILER:
I'm sorry but I don't get it.
Bayonetta already IS the grown up version of Cereza so how did this 'theory' even start?

My thoughts exactly.

To be fair, most of the storytelling in Bayonetta games doesn't make any sense, so I wouldn't be surprised if most the fanbase is confused, or missed the point you highlighted

In the first game, Little Cereza was brought from the past to help the current “Bayonetta” awaken the left eye. After little Cereza was sent back into her original timeline, she did not get sealed away by Jeanne because of her Umbran Watch Bayonetta gave to her, and fought in the witch hunts, unlike our Bayonetta who was sealed for 500 years. Resultingly, this created a new timeline, and fans speculate the Bayonetta in Bayonetta 3 is actually the little Cereza who grew up in the changed timeline, due to their incredibly similar appearance and mannerisms.
