It’s been a long-time coming for Nintendo fans, but we’ll soon have our first chance at giving Persona 5 Royal a go. The port is due out on October 21st, 2022, and it turns out we have SEGA to thank for making this project happen.

In the most recent issue of Famitsu, Atlus producer Shinji Yamamoto talked about bringing Persona 5 Royal to Switch, and he says SEGA lead the way. It seems like without SEGA’s direction and push, the port might not have happened!

“We’ve made some very detailed adjustments. We optimized the number of the pieces of debris that blow away for each model. Elements like effects, number of projectiles, etc.

SEGA was in charge of the development of the remaster (not just matching the resolution to the console). It was a very meaningful project. Multi-platform development isn’t easy. This was my first porting project, and I didn’t realize how hard it would be.”

Sounds like SEGA put a lot of care and hard work into this one, so hopefully this port turns out to be another fine example of what can be pulled off on Switch.

Considering it was originally a PS3 game, I can't imagine much optimization needed to be done. There was even hopes for it being multiplat between PS3 and Wii U back in the day before even the PS4 version was announced (this was way back in the day, around 2013 when all we had was that initial teaser).

And I don't think Royal did much visual upgrading besides adding PS4 Pro support and a framerate/resolution bump.
